Why Women Deserve Equal Rights
Did you know that to every dollar a man make, a woman with equal qualifications makes seventyseven cents for the same job? That means one person could make 23% more money than another for doing the exact same thing, just because of their sex. So are men better than women? Are they worth more? I’m Maddie Dunn, and I’m here today to prove to you that women deserve equal rights.

Throughout history, women have struggled to have the same rights as men, and throughout history, we have fallen short. We are in an a lot better place that we were 100 years ago, or even 50, but there is still a long way to go. Today, according to the law, women do have equal rigths with men. We can vote; we can hold office; we can do prettymuch the same things as men do. But we don’t. For example, we’ve never had a woman president before, and most of the time if a woman tries to pursue a high profile job, she is looked down upon. So why is this? Why is it that though women have equal oppurtunites as men, we do not take them? Could it be because maybe we are not actually given the same oppurtunites, because the social pressures put on women to do and be certan things, limit us from others?

Many people believe that a woman’s place is in the kitchen, or at the home taking care of her children and husband. Now I'm not saying that this isn't a noble job because it is, and women who do this everyday are amazing and deserve much more credit than they are given. But when a woman decides that she doesn't want to do this, that she doesn't want to settle down or raise kids and wants to lead her own life, she should be able to without limitations. Instead, she is judged, by other women as well as men. She goes to work everyday and works as hard as she can trying to do well for herself, but still her colleague in the next office over gets the promotion, not because he's better at his job, but because he's a man.
