Kids should be able to dress how they want to and express themselves in a way that other kids may not. According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada “allowing students to choose their clothing is an empowering message from the schools that a student is a maturing person who is entitled to the most basic self-determination.” A child should be able to choose their own clothing showing that they are mature enough to dress appropriately without a dress code being enforced. Schools also remove the option of various social causes. How is a kid supposed to support something like Breast Cancer Awareness when school dress code restricts the colors of their clothes to school colors or something as simple as black, blue, and maybe white. In other cases dress code may be taken too seriously in some schools. In the court case Richards v.
