Perhaps it’s the world renowned biomedical engineering major, “real word” application co-op program, entertaining Greek life, or the beautiful campus with a bustling city vibe; all great attributes that Georgia Tech maintains, but the most meaningful reason I’m applying to Tech is the ambitious, broad-mined, and intuitive students and staff found there. I’ve always searched for attributes among others that could grow in myself. Purposely surrounding myself with those who posses these traits in hopes that I could learn, replicate similar features in my choices and actions, and overall becoming a better person. As part of Tech’s vibrant engineering program, I will contribute through collaborative work with others and through intelligent and productive class discussions. I’ve been part of my high school’s heavily discussion-based International Baccalaureate program for the last four years; consequently, I’ve learned how to have intelligent and productive discussions and debates. I’ve also realized of these exchanges in my development as a thinker. I’m a better student and a thinker because of the discussions I’ve had, and I will use my discussion skills to make the most of my education at Georgia Tech. Also important in the IB program is collaborative work, and consequently I’ve learned to navigate the difficulties of working with others and to appreciate the power of multiple minds working towards a shared goal. At Georgia Tech, I will be a hard-working, collaborative member of any group. Beyond discussions and teamwork, I think that one of my most important contributions to Georgia Tech (given the challenging academic environment) will be my ability to stay calm under enormous stress, and to…

During my visit to Georgia Tech in the summer of 2014 I learned a lot about the Engineering program and life on campus. The part that caught my attention was the Internship program. After graduating I strive to become an Aerospace Engineer at one of the many aviation companies. During my tenure at Georgia Tech, I intend on pursuing an internship with Bombardier in Toronto. This will allow me to acquire the necessary workplace experience for the field in advance while also working towards my Masters in Engineering. The lifestyle I saw during my visit was very different from what I am used to seeing in my hometown. In today’s society technology has changed so much that some people can’t keep up with the changes. Over the last century there were wired telephones that started out the size of a college algebra book. The people of that time was grateful to have such communication capabilities and didn’t have a problem with the size of the phone. As the years pasted there would be advancements in this technology that would then move to a cordless telephone. You no longer had to carry that one hundred feet of telephone cable around the home or office any more, you could just carry the handset. But technology advancement would not stop there, in years there were phones that you could carry with you outside of your home or office building. The older generations had to learn how you use these phones, but very quickly cell phones evolved and were used everywhere.…

Back before Facebook, Twitter, even MySpace, if you wanted to find out information on someone or even catch up on the times apart you would normally send an email to that person. Emails used to be the way to get connected to your fellow employees and associates. Technology has come so far in such a short amount of time, there are countless means of communication now.…

Why is Columbia the school for me? At first glance, this question seemed easy to answer - a simple question – and maybe it is. Perhaps the question is simple and I am complicated, so stubborn and “unique” that I could not accept the more obvious answers: the prestige, the history, the financial opportunities that will come my way if I apply myself there. How proud I would be to have “Columbia Graduate” on my resume! But no, no these reasons are simply not adequate. These reasons are not my reasons. I agree with them, sure, and they are certainly meaningful, but they do not quite capture fully what I expect from a higher education. They are the plain and tangible results, but they are not the ones that will define me as a human being. For those reasons I must dig much deeper; I must shed any doubts I have and be honest with myself, for these reasons lie within. Why do I want to go to Columbia? Well...…

My time here at South Brunswick High School has been a time for self-exploration. I spent my first two years at SBHS trying to find out who I was as a person and what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Ever since I was young, I yearned for the opportunity to help not only humanity but the world as well. My whole family is full of engineers, so since a young age I despised them. I saw the path of engineering as a beaten path that simply wasn’t for me; I sought to be unique. However, I failed to realize that engineers were the people building towards the future. Engineering is the one profession that captures risk, innovation, and courage in one lifestyle. One very influential person taught…

It seems odd to me to write a paper about the importance of technology in education. While there may still be skeptics within the field of education, I would imagine that most people would agree that a technology rich environment enhances a child's education at least to some degree. Even teachers who are reluctant to infuse technology into their lesson plans would have to see the merit of students using technology consistently in classrooms. Most of the recent research articles I've read on technology and classroom learning conclude not only that there is an increase in student achievement in technology rich classroom environments, but also an increase in student motivation, especially among at risk students.…
