If there is a busy schedule between both parents during the day, Fridays off for students will help parents work and not worry about their kids if their kids were to go to a family member's house or sleep over a friend's house. Parents will save money if students go to their family or friends house instead of the parents hiring a baby sitter. A four day school week may come in handy if you have the entire Friday off to schedule appointments with doctors or dentists. If there was a Friday a student was taken out of school to go to the dentist, but the dentist was packed, he would be late to go back to school. Four day school weeks may alter that a little, say on a normal Friday, that the dentist would be full of students, but if there was no school on Friday, then there would be any line to wait in, and no rush to get back to school before school is over. The other upside of having Fridays off is that parents can do errands with out interruptions. If students have Fridays off, they can go to a friend's house so that their parents can run errands without interruption. According to Jami Dow, a mother who moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota ( a district that has a four day school week) three years ago to be closer to her parents, said, "Many families use the extra day to schedule doctor and dentist…

Why “Screen Free Week” Should Not Be Considered Does technology negatively affect us, or does it inflict beneficial learning capabilities? The wide use of technology entwined around our lives, especially at school, has definitely changed the way we operate. Without doubt, this contentious topic has intrigued several minds, including parents and staff at Sonora High School. In fact, they believe that by participating in “Shut Down Your Screen Week,” a national event demanding a week off all electronic devices, students would open up their minds beyond screens. While many argue that by being engaged to this event, students will be more productive and creative, I on the other hand, believe it’s an incompetent idea because technology is a key aspect…

Electronics are taking over the new generation. Parents believe that if students have week where they don’t use any electronics they would be more focused. Students shouldn’t have electronics for a week because it makes them distracted from their work and they are not thinking to their full potential. Students are constantly using online sources to figure out their problems, but without the internet they will have a chance to have deeper thinking. With no internet students will recognize how much more focused they will be.…

Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…

Over 3,000 schools have switched to year-round schooling in 46 different states. This makes up nearly ten percent of all public schools. “Traditional” schools are starting to decrease in numbers as year-round schools start to increase to “save money” (“Schools Without Summer Break: An In-Depth Look at Year-Round Schooling”, 1). But I don’t agree with converting schools to year-round facilities because students may find themselves in a multi-tracked school system which could be could problematic for the students and their families, there will be conflicts for family regarding child care, and students will miss out on summertime experiences.…

The question everyone's asking it should we have year round school? Well, I'm here to answer that question with a little help from Brigid Schulte on the Washington post. We should not have year round school because it can cut into family activities. Here is some thoughts from the Washington post. Still, when Mount Vernon Community School first considered the idea of going to a modified calendar a few years ago, it was a battle royale. Some middle-class parents argued that it was important for children to lie on their backs and watch the clouds for hours over a long summer break. This post is by Brigid Schulte and posted on 2009/06/05. This is why Michigan schools should not go to a year round calendar because it…

Moreover, having students stay in school for more days can help the school meet its needs. A better explanation would be schools would have no problems, economically. To prove the point, students buy snacks, lunch, parking, and materials. Students don't realize how much they help the school pay its bills such as diesel, supplies, and utility payments. The big debate recently has been over the use of the Internet in schools today. Coming from a school that does not have Internet access, I feel that not only is it a novelty, but it is also starting to become a necessity. Students that have the privilege to get on the Internet have a distinct advantage over the students who are less fortunate. Internet-able students have the possibility to access information at an unbelievable pace, and creating their reports becomes less tedious, and may even get kids interested in school. The advantages only begin with school work; the workforce is also centered around the computer, and knowing how to…
