Why Pay So Much More To Go To College

Just recently I have been able to articulate something that I have been thinking about for years, but have never been able to put together. No one in my family so far has gone to college. My mother, father, and sister have all gotten degrees online from community colleges. This is not a feat I am trying to undermine: they all worked very hard and earned their degrees. That being said, there is a huge difference between working on a degree from home and actually going to a college to study. A gigantic part of college that I think often gets overlooked or undermined is the social aspect. College is supposed to be your first true exposure to the world. That is where you are supposed to learn to solve all of your real world problems like paying bills or being fully independent.
This is also where you’re supposed to meet all sorts of new people, entirely different from those you’ve seen in Gratiot County. Where you live in a little bit bigger of a city. Where you network. Where you figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. Actually going to college, is very important. A fact that in many cases, like my own, is overlooked because of the money. Why pay so much more to go to a college when community colleges are so much cheaper? Is it really worth the tens of thousands of dollars worth of debt? For me, it really truly is. But I’m not going to just leave it at that; I am going to work as hard as I possibly can to make that debt as minimal as possible. That where scholarships like these come into play. I am not getting any financial aid from the government: it is expected that my parents give a third of their pre-tax income directly to my education, a lofty goal that unfortunately we cannot make work. The money that I have personally been saving since I was ten years old is helpful, but not enough to cover it
