Why Man Is An African Man
There are many areas of specialization which are concerned with man (Fromm,1965),which is why man is defined differently depending on the discipline at stake. Over the years man has been described in terms of science, religion, arts and also philosophy. Man is a complicated being which cannot be described from only one aspect (Fromm,1965),they are a lot to consider in order to fully describe a man. The conclusion has not been reached to whether an African man is Lockean, Hobbesian or Rousseauan even with a variety of fields in the universe. An African man can be described in terms of relationship with other species, with nature itself and with fellow man. The million dollar question still remains unanswered, what is an African man?

Everything human beings do is because of what they have learnt e.g. from school, parents, church etc. People in Chicko’s country believe that the crow resembles darkness and bad luck which is why they hated it which means everyone in that country is filled with knowledge from a tender age (Mungoshi, The Crow, 1972)For almost every good thing there is a bad thing that follows e.g. Julius did a good thing by confronting the principal but at the same time he got himself expelled from the school (Mungoshi, The Hero, 1972).Man also does both good and bad things without even noticing which leads back to tabula rasa (man is …show more content…
Everything man does is out of greed and only does it for their own good. This matter has to be solved, man has to take care of the environment (plants and animals),engage in sustainable development, respect those who are in authority and love each other as fellow human beings. That is the only way Africa is going to grow up as a continent, as one, in unity and agreement.

The radical sect of Nigerian Muslims has caused havoc in Nigeria for over a decade. Boko Haram’s ideology is one that forbids Muslims to partake in any activities associated with Western culture. Boko Haram launched its violent campaigns in 2009, attacking schools, churches, and homes. In 2014, Boko Haram made news after it kidnapped 276 girls from a school in northeast Nigeria. Although some of the girls escaped, over 200 hostages remain. Boko Haram claims responsibility for attacks not only in Nigeria, but also in Cameroon, Chad, and…

When defining any discipline that the world offers, it is important to discuss its origin, pre-disciplinary history, and its formation as an actual academic study. According to Professor Robert Lee Harris Jr., “African studies is the multidisciplinary analysis of the lives and thought of people of African ancestry on the African continent and throughout the world” (Harris 321). While analyzing Harris’s definition of African Studies, one must focus greatly on the fact that ancestry has an immense impact on creating a disciplinary study. Disregarding the history of the African people before establishing a study about them only hinders the opportunity a student has to fully understand what they learn about. “For some four hundred years, Europeans conquered and divided the whole of the African continent among themselves. The dark cloud of colonialism descended over Africans, whose land, labor, and economical wealth were methodically and thoroughly exploited and stripped by colonial powers” (Martin and Young 4). Anthropologists studied African people during the time of colonization and therefore, started the African Studies. Although the anthropologists had the opportunity to study the culture, language, and lifestyle of the Africans, they unfortunately developed a colonial-based view.…

We are originally children of Africa with no Neanderthals or island-dwelling "hobbits" in our family tree. The first humans migrated out of Africa into Asia probably between 2 million and 1.8 million years ago. Then they entered Europe some time later, between 1.5 million and 1 million years. The modern humans’ species populated many parts of the world much later. For example, the first people came to Australia probably in the past 60,000 years and to the Americas sometime in the past 30,000 years. The beginning of agriculture and the rise of the first civilizations happened in the past 12,000 years.…
