Why Is Stanley Unlucky
“Sometimes when things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place.” In the novel, Stanley thought that his luck couldn't get any worse, day by day his luck was getting better. Through the influence of Zeros friendship, Stanley changes from insecure and unlucky to confident and lucky. At the rise of the novel, Stanley is insecure, and unlucky. Stanley is insecure in the starting point of the book “ Stanley weighed three times as much as the other boy… She was unaware of how much embarrassment she had caused.” (Sachar 7) This evidence shows that Stanley is known for his weight, he gets made fun of, and he is insecure about it. Stanley is unlucky “ A patrol car pulled alongside him. Stanley was arrested.” (Sachar 24) The evidence shows that Stanley is unlucky because he got arrested for a crime he did not do. Stanley has changed a lot since day one. Stanley never had any friends until he met Zero, now he can be himself and learn from Zero. Stanley can be his true self around Zero “What do you think is up there?” asked Zero, “Probably an Italian restaurant. I think I'll get a pepperoni pizza.” (Sachar 163) This text evidence shows that Stanley has a funny side but only shows it around Zero. Stanley is influenced by Zero “ As long as Zero could keep going, he could keep going too.” (Sachar 162) The evidence from this quote …show more content…
Stanley is extremely confident “Stanley took hold of Zeros forearms and pulled him upright. He stood up lifting Zeros worn out body off the ground.” (Sachar 170) The evidence shows that Stanley is confident because he knows he is able to save Zero’s life and carry him up to big thumb. Stanley is lucky “ Stanley and Zero each received less than a million dollars, but not a lot less.” (Sachar 230) This evidence shows that finding the hidden treasure paid off, they got lucky that they found it before the warden. Stanley changed from insecure to confident throughout the

This can be proved as he wept after a gift to his brother had caused him to go to jail and the death of the other man involved, causing him to become depressed for weeks. A secondary argument is that the whole time he was attending the University of Toronto, his academic achievements were shadowed by his past and self-doubt, most notably his past in the ghetto of Bushwick, proving that even though he may have appeared solid on the outside, he was still…

Regardless he was a capable pianist or he was not, they did not want to see him as a pianist. The audience, in fact, did not want to see him in his role and space that he was thought he had deserved it. For Stanley, it is yet not clear who has done that to him, whether the audience in a fixed conspiracy have done so or it was an order by the authority in power. However, his identity is taken away and his space is violated. Thus in lieu of such space and position, he validated his new position in a domestic space of a boarding house where his attendant is a mother-mistress figure, Meg. In a place like womb which is positive and beneficent to Stanley, he develops his space and play his role desirably, but as the plot continues, his space is occupied and his identity faded away. Thus, his credibility and acceptance wanes. Stanley’s notion regarding the concert and the two sinister guests remain unclear until they enter the boarding house as he senses the menace. He tries to disappoint them to stay in house. But the threat comes to surface when the intruders forced him to sit down and they engaged with him in a verbal…

In excess of these being certain exemplifications of Stanley’s brutal attitude, they also indicate Stanley’s lack of self-control, which once again is similar to an animal trait, as animals are liable to be quite ruthless and don’t think about their actions before they carry it out. Furthermore, the fact that Stanley is acting quite rudely towards his sister-in-law and a just-arrived guest fortifies the belief that he is uncaring and confounding towards new people, thus makes him even more animal-like, since most animals dislike people or things that are new to them. Inasmuch, the above is a distinctive example of disconcerting behaviour, particularly because Stanley is an adult and adults tend to be very responsible people, however in the above case mentioned Stanley is not as he is behaving rather irresponsibly.…

To judge what extent Stanley is a villain it is necessary to first assess which criteria of a typical villain he fits. Throughout the play Stanley proves that he inflicts emotional pain on Blanche, and by not letting her forget her past and by destroying any possibility of love in her life Stanley becomes an obstacle she must attempt to overcome. It is Stanley who brings about the protagonists demise. However, although it appears that Stanley is vindictive and only bringing Blanche down for his own personal gain, one could argue that he is doing it for his relationship with Stella as Stanley would like things to return to the way they were before Blanche arrived. Stanley talks about how he wants their relationship to simply go back to normal: “Stell, it's gonna be all right after she [Blanche] goes…”…

To begin, one of the most easy to depict traits Stanley showcases is his courage he portrays this not thinking of the possible outcome but by doing what he knows is right. One way Stanley reveals his courage to stand up for others and himself not by thinking of the possible consequences, but shows his courage when he stands up to discrimination for example when a fellow worker named Andrew who is African American was cleaning the floor when he placed his broom against a table which suddenly slipped and knocked over a can of Linseed oil and ruins some brand new hats which Stanley’s boss Mr. Stroheim decided to take the value of the hats and take it out of Andrew’s paycheck, then Stanley said to Mr. Stroheim “I didn’t think that was fair. It wasn’t Andrews fault”(Simon 24).Thus showing Stanley’s Courage standing up for…

Stanley shows instability throughout the play, especially after the arrival of Stella’s sister, Blanche. Stanley does not allow his anger to take over him at first, but after many months of what he sees as disrespect from his sister-in-law and eventually from his wife he completely breaks down. The first scene of instability shown in the play is at the poker game where when Stella tries to act as head of the house and attempts to break up the poker game. Stanley jumps up and charges after her and slaps her. Another example of Stanley being pushed from sanity is in scene eight when he says, “What do you two think you are? A pair of queens? Remember what Huey Long said- “Every Man is a King!”And I am the king around here, so don’t forget it!” (Williams 131).…

Stanley, in the play, is described as a masculine person. He is physically strong and is often referred to as a beast. Animals, out in the wild, use sex to show dominance in their clan or group. For example the rest of the walruses looks up the walrus that has a mate. Stanley is in this way an animal. He allows his primal instincts to take over. Therefore he is the dominant male in the household and must have everything his way.…

I support the blank slate theory because in the very beginning of the book Stanley’s stepmother encourages him to act in deviant behavior. “One day my stepmother told William to take me to the railroad yard to break into box-cars.” (52-53). So Stanley has been taken under the wing of his step-brother who is stealing stuff for there stepmother, in return they are rewarded for stealing. This is a perfect example of an exposing Stanley to a positive outlook on crime. With this happening it kick started Stanley’s deviant behavior he began stealing for fun for many years, constantly being picked up by the police and taken to detentions homes which were not much of a punishment for him. Stanley enjoyed being in the detention home more than his real home so the consequence for his criminal behavior almost was a reward for him.…

    Stanley Harrison's Death

Mr Stanley Harrison died in a matter of substantial peculiarity. Mr Harrison had received vicious head wounds, lacerations and broken bones also present in hands. Although alcohol was present in Mr Harrison’s bloodstream, no present signs suggest that his acts were of drunkenness. The coroners report states that Mr Harrison would have died instantaneously from the severe head wounds. The photograph of a female in his pocket suggests that she was of importance to Mr Harrison, but no information can be presented about whom this woman is. From a large quantity of evidence that was collected, information states that Mr Harrison travelled to Wollongong with intention of bring someone back with him, perhaps the woman who wrote to him, Kate, stating that she had found an American soldier to take care of her and intending on leaving him for the soldier. This may have caused Mr Harrison severe distress and as a result had intention of going to see Kate and convincing her to return back to him. There is no evidence to suggest that he was successful or not but evidence suggest that he was unsuccessful and travelled to the nearest bar to which a fight out broke. As there is a large quantity of evidence missing from this investigation, no real conclusion can be drawn about how or why Stanley Harrison died, only many different scenarios can be assumed.…
