Why Is Patroclus Called Achilles
If I could choose to be any mythological character in the complete Trojan myth, I believe I would choose to be Patroclus. Patroclus was a very close friend of the Greek hero Achilles. Toward the end of the myth, when the Greeks have been pushed almost entirely back to the shore by the Trojans, Patroclus tells Achilles to give him his armor, so that maybe the Trojans would think that he was Achilles. The purpose of this plan was to buy the Greeks and Achilles some time and some breathing space. It is then that the Trojan hero Hector, thinking Patroclus was Achilles, struck and fatally wounded him. Patroclus knew he was not as great a warrior as his friend, but was willing to do what he could to help out, even though it ended up costing his life.
