Why Is Beowulf Be Considered A Hero Today

Would Beowulf still be considered a hero today? Many would say no, but I would disagree because Beowulf has many attributes that American Soldiers have as well. They do things that people don’t even dream about it since it will put their own lives at risk. The main similarity between a Soldier and Beowulf is their passion of risking their own lives, to save anyone else's life. Beowulf and soldiers are very brave individuals, they will fight to protect their country. If they see or hear that people are in danger, they will immediately go and battle, knowing they might not make it. Capt. Nathan Hale once said, “ I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country.” Heroes know the dangers they are putting themselves in, but wish to fight for us anyways. Beowulf fought monsters with his bare hands and a sword, unlike soldiers, they fight people with guns and lethals. Although they are both horrifying fights, it is still a huge difference. Also, after Beowulf defeated Grendel’s Mother, he was crowned king of the Geats. In America, we don’t crown our soldiers after winning a battle. Instead, we pay huge respect to the ones that risk their lives for us. Another difference it what these heroes go through to achieve such strength and knowledge in battle. Soldiers go through series of bootcamps and training to learn what to do in battle, and achieve great skill out in the war. Beowulf on the other hand, doesn’t train for his skill. Beowulf fought Grendel, Grendel’s Mother, and the Dragon without any training whatsoever. In conclusion, Beowulf and Soldiers have many things differences and similarities.
