Why I Want To Pursue My Education
Born and raised in Cali, Colombia South America, and moved to the United States when I was 15. The cultural changes haven’t affected my customs since my family is always working to maintain our traditions alive. After moving I had to face a lot of obstacles in order to pursuit my education. The biggest obstacle that I have overcome was the language barrier. When I came 3 years ago, Spanish was my first language and adapting to a new culture and language were the biggest obstacles. I learned that with effort and dedication, I can accomplish my goals.
The cost of education can be challenging for anyone, and that was my case when I began my college journey. Without knowing the options available and without the financial support of my family, my …show more content…
I have meet some of the most of the amazing people that truly care about you and that wants to see each student grow and succeed. Thanks to this job I am able to guide students to meaningful service opportunities that most of the time help to the improvement of our community. It also gave me the opportunity to network with faculty and other students, and I was able to realize all the opportunities, outreach activities and leadership roles available. As I started getting involved I joined different clubs and organizations, and as of today I am a member of Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Society), member of Phi Beta Lambda (Future Business Leaders of America), member of Dream Team (Community Service Club), and member of TRIO Student Support Services. In the future I am planning on joining the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society since I received a letter of invitation to be part of it. Being involved in my community inspired me to start taking action and I was elected as treasurer of the Homestead Campus Student Government Association (SGA). I am responsible for organizing and participating in charitable activities and community service projects, while keeping accountability for the college budget. As I develop my role, I will work to inspire others to get out, explore and encourage them to contribute and be a part of the change of our
