Anesthesiologists are a type of doctor that are trained to administer and manage anesthesia given during a surgical procedure. Anesthesiologists are also responsible for monitoring vital signs — such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure — during the surgery that is being performed. Responsibilities like being good under pressure, critical thinking, and problem solving are very important skills in the field of medicine. I think that these skills are applied in my life right now at school; moreover, I use these skills every day in statistics class. Additionally, this career has a considerable salary considering this is a very important job. I will start out making about $150,000 which can increase up to $450,000 a year. To become an anesthesiologist, I will first have to go to 4 years of undergraduate, then 4 years of medical school, and then 4 years of residency. I plan on going to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for undergraduate, medical school, and residency as it has one of the best teaching hospitals in the south. In the 4 years of undergraduate before medical school, the opportunities of what I can major in isn't really limited as long as I take the required classes for medical school. Moreover, I plan on majoring in either neuroscience or chemistry because I am fascinated by the field of science and I want to stay in that field in college. I also hope to attend the honors college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham because it will help me further my understanding of science and help me in getting into medical school. Furthermore, for becoming an anesthesiologist, I will obtain two degrees from undergraduate and graduate school and then a board certification to go on practicing anesthesia. I will hopefully obtain a bachelor’s degree in either neuroscience or chemistry, then a degree in medicine or osteopathy, and once I complete residency I will get board certified to be a recognized anesthesiologist. In the long run, going through this much schooling will be worth to obtain my goal of becoming an
