A degree in Nursing could help me follow the path that I have wanted to obtain, for myself and for my family. As a first generation, there are high expectations for me to achieve and continue my studies to provide my sisters with a role model. Picking a college to attend was a pretty big deal to my parents than it was for me, for instance, they wanted me to attend a school that would provide me with a lot of financial aid, a school where it is small enough that I do not blend in, and a school that is known for their Nursing program. With that it lead me to this university, knowing that a small institute would provide me with a better outlook rather than a larger university. My experience so far has been a roller coaster, mostly downs. It was a big transition, going from high school where everything is given to you and you follow the material, to a setting where you have to set yourself and prioritize on what is important and disciplining yourself. The material is quite different as well, in high school, we went over the general and basics of a material while in college we review the basics but go even further into the…

I believe that I am a strong candidate for the Social Justice Fellowship Program because I embody a commitment to social justice and I have been able to excel academically; earning a 3.745 cumulative G.P.A., full scholarship for my senior year, dean’s lists, honors and awards recognition, and being an active change maker through leadership and service. In 2013, I earned the President’s Bronze Standard award given to me by Honorable Mwai Kibaki, the third president of Kenya, for being a young person equipped with positive life skills and a change maker in my community, country, and globally. Despite having faced challenges in my life, including the socio-economic challenges of growing up in the slums of Kariobangi South in Nairobi, Kenya; where I saw my neighbors experience a cycle of poverty and helplessly watched as friends, close relatives, and other young girls dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy and young men becoming criminals, I have excelled academically and achieved some of my goals. The most challenging experience due to my socio-economic status was during my sophomore college year when I learned that my cousin, who was a brother to me, had been a victim of a deadly armed robbery. This experience opened my eyes to the sacrifices I was making by pursuing a higher…

A personal relationship is usually a relationship you have chosen to have with an individual. Personal relationships don’t have rules or boundaries, and individuals are free to express their opinions. However, when it comes to work, in most cases you don’t choose the individuals you work with, you are expected to follow policies and procedures, you get paid and have to stick to work times. People are usually at different levels and have different roles at work, you have management, and in my job the co ordinators and then the care staff. Working relationships have to be kept professional, where as personal relationships tend to involve emotions, love, intimacy and being…
