Why do teachers need a class in diversity?
There are so many reasons why people want to become teachers. As we grow up in life we are taught the principles of education and life. We learn to read, write, count in our younger years and as time goes by we learn much more complicated uses of those basic concepts. However these days it’s so much harder to find those teachers that apply these concepts to our everyday lives. Teachers now just take their roll and start class not really ever looking at the type of students he or she has this year. Teachers will always be needed throughout the world. In fact it’s more interesting if teachers have diversity in their class because then they won’t only be teaching one diversity but they will be trying to figure out how to teach for all sorts of different diversities too. Teachers need a class in diversity because it makes teachers and students all aware of the different backgrounds students come with, how teachers can teach themselves throughout the year, and how to apply all of these different sets of teachings into a classroom.
Teachers need to be aware of all of their student’s backgrounds when teaching. It’s so important that teachers figure this out towards the beginning of the year because it could be the reason why that student isn’t doing too well in the class. All teachers see is this student sitting in his or her desk ready to learn but sometimes there is so much more in that student’s life than meets the eye. For all we know that student could live an hour away and have to travel to school extremely early to make the bell. Then after school that student could have a job and work until night therefore giving that student not a lot of time to study or do homework. All of these examples could be reasons why a student is trying their hardest but still not passing the class. Not only do teachers need to focus on their after/before lives out of school but they also should take into consideration that student’s religion, gender, and race. These traits could have a great deal over your classroom and your teachings. Teachers must be aware of all the holidays so they don’t miss a holiday that one of their students celebrates. Gender and race is more of an issue with students and not so much teachers; however teachers need to address the first day of class that everyone should be treated equally. Teachers being aware of their student’s background can help not only the teachers but also the students. By mixing up some of the lesson plans and teaching the students according to their culture could help everyone appreciate each other’s backgrounds. In the process of teaching while being aware of student’s backgrounds teachers also find that they teach themselves along the way.
Very little do students know that teachers teach themselves while their students. Sometimes teachers are given a syllabus at the beginning of the year and are expected to follow it precisely. At this point teachers are reading down the syllabus and are already coming up with lesson plans that they think would be good for the students. After a year or two if that teacher succeeds in getting students to pass then they will have a little more leeway with their syllabus next year. The more a teacher teaches the more they can teach their own way. However sometimes a teacher finds out that the lessons they have been using for years is now not working and now they have to come up with an entirely new lesson plan for their students. This is not always a bad thing because, in the process of creating new lesson plans, that teacher is also learning new techniques to use for his or her future lesson plans. Student’s feedback teaches us so much more than students think about how to continue on with lesson plans. By teaching all different types of students it helps teachers understand different concepts students might have and teach us to be a little more creative with lesson plans for the following classes. Teaching not only challenges the students but it also challenges the teachers and inspires them to become better teachers. Teachers will always learn from students but sometimes it’s hard to apply it in the classroom.
Teaching is one thing but applying those teachings so most students can fully understand it is sometimes difficult. It may seem to the teacher that his or her way of teaching the material is perfect and everyone understands it but sometimes it’s not always that simple. For example a teacher could be going on and on about science concepts like angles, pulleys, and axles and one day a student raises their hand and says they don’t understand what’s going on. So the teacher takes an example from the book and tries their best to explain how The Golden Gate uses all these terms to the whole class but still not all the students get what’s going on. Now some of the students have lost interest and are wondering why they ever have to learn this because they will never use this in real life. After all some of the students are focusing on becoming a journalist and rather be outside looking at articles they could write about than be talking about The Golden Gate. This refers back to teachers aware of student’s backgrounds and what they might want to be in the future. By knowing the students backgrounds they could apply this to the lesson plan and come up with an interesting lesson that applies to all the students in the classroom. Teachers should know that everyone gets bored in the classrooms and should take that as an advantage to move their class to another stop for a day or so. Having students not always in the same four by four white rooms and switching it up for them can make students concentrate more on the lesson. Maybe if a teacher’s lesson for the next couple of weeks is about pulleys, axles, and such, they should take them out to an historical bridge one day and should them exactly where on the bridges they terms come into play and also let the students know why this bridge is historical. Trying new techniques for lessons can help teachers so much in preparing an interesting lesson that applies to the material they are teaching either in or out of the classroom and if that doesn’t work than you can try another one. Teachers have endless possibilities for lesson plans and how they can apply it for the class.
I have learned so much from my Education class. I have learned all sorts of different diversities and why being aware of diversities is such a big deal not only to the teachers but the students as well. Diversities teach us all to respect and learn new facts about each other. I have learned once you get grasp the students attention than that is the only time to teach the students while they are learning. Students help teachers out in so many different ways. Together students and teachers teach each other and its fantastic thing. Doing this will allow teachers and students to learn new things everyday and this just shows all of us that we never stop learning.

Learners the mixing up of which produces the learning styles that best suits a learner, ie; Converger, Diverger, Assimilator and Accommodator. By ensuring the lessons accommodate all learning styles all learners will feel inclusion. Along with the learning styles I would include relevant resource materials .
