Why Did The Fight Against Barbary Pirates
I claim that the fight against the Barbary pirates strengthened the United States.
The first way in which the fight strengthened the United States was the bulking of the Navy and the Marine Corps. The Marine Corps were used under John Adam’s presidency once in a small undeclared war with France called the “Quasi War.” Shortly after the conflict with France, the Barbary pirates started arise again. Jefferson was fed up with the Barbary pirates. He knew the U.S. had to do something fast. It was too much money to constantly pay off the pirates. They needed to be defeated as soon as possible. The pirates were capturing U.S. citizens, and capturing ships. It was costing the U.S. too much money to let this keep happening. The United States was losing
