Why Did The Civil War Start
The Civil War was a conflict, it was a big foundation of our history. It changed the way we viewed ourselves, it was also one of the most important foundations of American history. The Civil War was between April 12, 1861, to April 9, 1865. The Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery. It is also called the war between states. The Union, also known as the North side, won the war. The particular reason for why the Civil War started was because of disagreements over slavery, state vs. federal rights, the election of Abraham Lincoln, and the economy. The North had become more equestrian and mercantile while the South had stayed largely agronomy. More than these differences, however, were African-American slaves. In the meantime, the recently established Republican party, whose members were fully against the westward expansion of slavery into the new states, was gaining notability. The straw poll of a Republican, Abraham Lincoln, as President in 1860 sealed the deal. His successful outcome, without a single Southern electoral vote, clearly indicated to the Southern states that they had lost all authority. The Southerners felt excluded from the political system but they turned to the only replacement they believed was left to them: secession, a political decision that led directly to war. The Compromise of 1850 was one of the events that eventually led up to the Civil War. The Compromise of 1850 was the Fugitive Slave Act, the ten-year armistice established by the compromise that only pushed the nation further against slavery, making many in the South fear the end of slavery, and many in the North crave the end of slavery, the very issue which would push the South to secede after Abraham Lincoln is elected president.
