Why are slow moving fish so fascinating to learn about? I have searched online about fishes and have learned how to classify each kind of fish. In addition, I took the Marine Science - oceanography class, so I have some information and knowledge about fishes. There are 3 types of slow moving fish that live in a reef environment.
The first type of slow moving fish is sea-dragon fish. The sea dragons are small and strictly when they find food to eat. The sea dragon doesn’t have fins like other fish to swim, so they follow the current movement to travel from one place to another place. The sea dragon have a distinctive way when they come to reproduce because the male usually fertilize the eggs that the female lay on the male pouch. The sea dragon will take care of their fry at the moment that they were born and only 1% of the fry will continue to survive to become adult sea dragons. Another species that belong to the same family of the sea dragon are the sea horse.
The second type of slow moving fish is sea-horse fish. The sea-horse is the second least slow moving fish that lives in the reef environment. The sea-horse is the poor swimmer, unlike other fishes have fin and bladder to swim around. Sea-horse has not scaled like fish and they are captured by humans around the world,
The pipefish is not very active creatures other than for finding food. The pipefish doesn’t have a digestive system so they run out of energy and nutrients do fast. The pipefish doesn’t swim well due to the design of the body. They move very slow around and need to rest often. The pipefish is extremely beautiful because of their bright color variation. That’s why pipefish is captured by humans as pets. Humans are the main threats to pipefish include habitat loss, coastal development, and harvesting for using in traditional medicines.
