Why Are Ship Wrecked On A Heroic Island?
If you are shipwrecked on a deserted island, then it would be the best choice to choose bag three, which has a saucepan, three granola bars, and sunscreen. You see, my dad is the captain of the U.S. Navy and has survived on a deserted island, too, for 20 years until his friend came and rescued him. Because of his experience, I asked him which bag I should choose and told him the items in all three bags. He said that the most reasonable choice was bag three because the other bags had objects that you could make out of the island’s resources. Therefore, I suggest that you should trust me and choose bag three. After researching, I found two studies that are similar to my experiment. One study by Sean Boyd (2007) tested to see which brand of microwave popcorn yielded the least amount of un-popped kernels. Mr. Boyd tested five brands of butter flavored microwave popcorn: Aldi, Act II, Orville Redenbacher, Jolley Time and Pop-Secret. His experiment proved his hypothesis partially wrong. Mr. Boyd hypothesized that Orville Redenbacher would be the best and Aldi's would be the worst. His experiment proved that Act II produced the least amount of un-popped kernels while Aldi's did have the most un-popped kernels on average.…

    Reconsider Lifeboat Ethics

    • 1035 Words

In his article “Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor,” Garret Hardin argues that rich nations should not help poor nations by providing limited resources. He presents that the rich nations are morally obligated to protect their limited because sharing will only lead to catastrophe, squander and overloading the environment. He claims that poor nations should learn from the “hard way” independently and control the population by the crude way if they want to manage their poverty. Hardin, on the other hand, doesn’t completely negate that rich nations shouldn’t help poor nations, but they should provide technical support instead of material support. His arguments include the limited natural resources, tragedy of commons, no true world government to control reproduction and the use of available resources. We should take actions according to the ethics of lifeboat.…

In the "case of the shipwrecked sailors", three men were marooned after the sinking of an oil tanker. Subject to extreme conditions and starvation, the men drew lots after about twenty five days and decided that the loser would be killed and eaten as food. When one of the men lost the draw, he pulled out his consent, and the other two men killed him anyway, eating him. Five days later, the remaining two men were rescued and ensuing actions incurred their murder charges. This seems to be a simple case over the battle of life and death, and it truly is. The two men, Dudley and Stephens, made a conscious decision to commit not only the crime of murder, but the atrocity of cannibalism. Crime is crime and law is law- when breaks a law and commits a crime, a punishment must ensue.…
