Why Are Relationships Complicated Research Paper
To someone I loved,

Why are relationships so complicated? All relationships involve conflicts or arguments at one point in time. Occasionally, the conflicts would be taken too far. There would be a tear in the relationship that could be mended but never be the same again.

For visual, a piece of paper represents a relationship of any type, sister and brother, mother and daughter, friend to friend. Over time the paper may stay in tact depending on the circumstances. Water may be poured on the paper to cause the paper to get wet. The paper then becomes fragile and must be taken care in order to return to the way it previously was. However, the paper cannot be put back to the way it was before. Once the paper is dried, it will become crinkled.

Attraction and the formation of relationships in today’s society is an everyday happening for most people and therefor it’s not surprising that numerous amounts of psychological research into interpersonal and social relationships has centred on romantic relationships. Researchers have found a number of likely factors that play a vital role in the formation of relationships, these being physical attractiveness, proximity, attitude similarity, demographic similarity and similarity in personality. Physical attractiveness in the Western World is of great importance and research has shown that being physically attractive is one of the primary determinants of whether or not you develop a relationship with someone. Investigations have shown that physical attractiveness makes people more popular and applies to both platonic and romantic relationships. A study done by Brigham (1971) found that physically attractive individuals are thought of as being generally attractive and being sociable, exciting, interesting, poised and sexually warm. Cunningham (1986) examined the particular features of men and women that make them attractive to the opposite sex and found that in relation to women what men found most attractive were large eyes, small eyes and a small chin, whereas for men, women looked for square jaws, small eyes and thin lips in terms of attraction.…

Conflict between people is a part of life and it is not necessarily a bad thing. I believe a relationship with frequent conflict may be healthier than one that seems to completely perfect or does not have any observable conflict. Conflicts can occur at many different levels of interaction, work, among friends, family members, and intimate relationships. When conflict occurs a relationship can be weakened or strengthened depending on the conflict and its resolution. Thus, conflict is a very critical event in the course of any relationship. Conflict can cause resentment,…

Conflicts might be inevitable in a long-term relationship, but destructive fights that lead nowhere, except for hurt, defensiveness, disappointment and resentment, can certainly be avoided. We might wish for a perfect partner but it would be unreasonable to expect that such a person actually existed. Once they leave the initial stage of relationship (period that is as close to the ideal as it gets), real couples have to face quite a different scenario. We realize that if we are to be together, there are many things to be negotiated. Many of these can be solved by peaceful…
