Who Was Responsible For Herbert's Death
Did you ever wonder why Herbert died? It all started on a dark stormy night while playing chess. A man from far away land knocked on the door. He told a tail of a magical paw. The paw would let you make three wishes. In the story monkeys paw the son Herbert’s dies. I believe Herbert is the blame. Since Herbert didn’t believe in the paw he caused his own death. We were going to be rich and happy. Wish to be an emperor. He was making fun of the mystery of the paw. That could have been a reason he put death on his self for not believing and making fun of it. He sat in the darkness gazing at the dying fire. He was probably thinking of bad things. He had seen his own big face in the mist of the fire. Those were probably signs of him be deceased.

Although i cannot say for certain, I believe in his retrospective of his life, he found something that he didn’t see before. He spent the last years of his life gazing at natures beauty, and in his final days i feel as though he finally saw the beauty of the human world.…

The author uses metaphors, for example: “Yes, he was stone, stone dead.”. By describing the old man as, “stone dead,” we can understand that he would not move again, just like how stone doesn’t move. The author also uses personification for example :“All in vain; because Death, in approaching him, had stalked with his black shadow before him, and enveloped the victim..”. By using personification of death, we can understand that the narrator keeps waiting for the old man to…

This time, the man is on his death bed. He is no longer eating or drinking, as he knows that it would only be a waste. The boy tries to give him some water, and the man tells him to save it for him for later. The boy then, “took the cup and moved away and when he moved the light moved with him… look around you, he said. There is no prophet in the earth's long chronicle who's not honored here today. Whatever form you spoke of you were right,” (277). Like earlier in the book, the light that surrounds the boy represents his pure goodness. The man suggests that the boy honors all prophets who had come before. That his pureness surmounted that of anyone else.…

By this time in the story, the man is showing signs of death and is coughing up blood. As foreshadowed, the narrator says, “...he knew he could go no further and that this was the place where he would die.” (McCarthy 277), showing that it is the man’s time to pass. In his final words, the man tells the boy that he mustn’t give up and that he has to carry the “fire” inside of him. This idiom references one of the major symbols in the book: The fire. It symbolizes the determination they had to overcome their never-ending hardships, and hope that the boy must have in order to survive. The climax ends in an emotional exchange of words and the boy waking up with his father’s cold arms around…

The main character, the narrator, is described in the story to look like a baby monkey when she was a child. For example, “… around my hairline, which was rather low down, nearly to my eyebrows, and made some people say I looked like a baby monkey.” (1129). This shows that the narrator a unique hairline that resembled a monkey and other people noticed it. When Mr. Sweet is nearing death, the narrator is awakened in the middle of the night because she can bring him back with her love and affection. For instance, “For soon after we had gone to bed one of the neighbors knocked on our door and called my father and said that Mr. Sweet was sinking fast…” (1128), and, “I was very good at bringing him around, for as soon as I saw he was struggling to open his eyes I knew he was going to be all right, and so could finish my revival sure of success.” (1129). This shows that the narrator has always been helpful. The narrator thinks that if she continues to help Mr. Sweet come back from dying, he’ll always be okay. For example, “It did not occur to us that we were doing anything special; we had not learned that death was final when it did come.” (1129). He stalked the old man for seven long nights at midnight. For an hour he would carefully and quietly watch the old man as he slept waiting for him to open his eye so he could swiftly get rid of it instantly. “And that I did every night for seven nights - every night just at midnight - but i found the eye always looked closed.” On the eighth night, the narrator accidentally made a noise and the old man awoken and was terrified because he knew someone was watching him. When the narrator thought it was the right moment, he did what he had been planning to do. After, he dismembered the body in his bathtub so no blood was spotted and stuffed it under the floorboard. He carefully thought that all out. What a frightening idea. He could still be proven mad even after all of these insane acts. His mind could have made him think that this was the appropriate way to act because he strongly believed that the eye was…
