Who Is Martin Luther King Jr.: A Threat To Justice?
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a singe garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly,” a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. who was an American Baptist minister and the leader of the Civil Rights Movement. He was known for the advancement of civil rights using a nonviolent action on his beliefs. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived with his parents, siblings, and as well as his grandparents. His name was supposed to be Michael King Jr., after his dad but after their trip from Germany, his father added Luther to his name and the name Martin Luther is a tribute to a protestant leader in Germany. His parents were Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. His siblings were Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. When Martin Luther King was five, he began school at Yonge Street Elementary School in Atlanta. However, he wasn’t able to continue going to school because the legal school entrance was six. After that, he was involved with different protests and worked to stop injustice against African-Americans. He promoted non-violent demonstrations to raise awareness of African-American rights and organized peaceful marches. King delivered his most famous speech to a crowd of more than two hundred thousand people in Birmingham, Ala. His “I Have a Dream” speech shared his hopes for a non-segregated future where white and black children would be treated with the same respect and
