When Is Animal Testing Wrong
Scientists have been using animals to conduct experiments and tests since ancient times. Over the years, the practice of using animals has been under fire by animal protection and animal activist groups. Using animals for drug testing has become an important part of scientific experiments but it has also led to the deaths of millions of animals. When animal testing goes wrong, it can harm the users whom it is supposedly benefiting. The use of animal testing should be abandoned because it does not predict accurate results in human beings, it kills animals, and there are alternate testing methods that exist which do not involve the use of animals. The differences between humans and animals provide one important reason for using caution when …show more content…
Many of the new alternatives methods can range from using 3-D models of the human body or even using real life human subjects which can be donated for the use of science. A skin equivalent can be comparable to the natural skin of humans and therefore it is an alternative method to animal testing (Mertsching, Weimer, Kersen, & Brunner, 1/4). The Authors indicate that the skin equivalent is generated out of human keratinocytes on a collagen substrate containing human dermal fibroblast (Mertching et al., 2/4). For the alternative method, it allows for applications of testing of an array of drugs and products used for daily life without using animals and produce accurate results because of how close the resemblance is and the biological structure to humans. Some of the test they can do on the skin can be used for testing the various parts of the body and different symptoms. With animal testing coming under fire and criticism scientists try to find ways to not use animals. A different approach of animal testing was taken by Unilever in collaboration with Entelos Inc. Which is a computer based-mathematical model (Vandebriel, & Loveren 397). The use of a computer based models will help obtain the understandings of the tests the scientists do without using any animals. With computers they can create a model of the human body and use the info they gathered to construct a model that will be accurate when testing. They can also get info about the knowledge gap also they will be able to integrate the different ways using the alternative testing data. With the data they can put together the info they gathered with the other testing methods to make a model on the computer that will be more

In today’s society, many people debate whether or not using animals in research is humane. An estimated 26 million animals are used every year in the United States for scientific and commercial testing. [2] Proponents of animal testing state that it has enabled the development of numerous life-saving treatments for both humans and animals, while opponents state that animal testing is cruel and often yields irrelevant results because animals are so different from human beings. Many different animals are used in scientific studies such as rabbits, mice, primates, dogs, cats, pigs, and cows. I believe that animal testing is beneficial because it provides opportunities to improve the lives of both humans and animals.…

Animal testing is rarely successful since animals have different physiologies than humans. There has been many studies that have shown inaccuracy and unsuccess in animal testing. Studies show, “90 percent of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials” (Stop Animal Testing) and also, “Animal-tested drugs have killed, disabled or harmed millions of people and lead to costly delays as well” (Stop Animal Testing). It is evident that animal testing lacks accuracy and has dangerous consequences, therefore it should no longer be…

Laws have been passed in several countries to make the practice more “humane”. Drug testing using animals became more important in the 20th century. Issues such as “cruelty” to animals and the humane treatment of animals are valid concerns and hence the use of animals in experimental is greatly regulated. I think this stuff should be illegal. Labs that use mice, rats, birds, reptiles, and amphibians are exempted from the minimal protections under the animal welfare…

Research shows that 26 million animals have been used for testing of all different kinds. 26 million animals have been put through wringer for the sake of a human. 26 million animals have had no say, defense, or chance to save themselves. Animals are used as human experiments to see if a certain product can work or not. Animal testing is wrong on many different levels. If humans are not willing to use, test and experiment on themselves, why should one be allowed to test on an animal who has no say in what happens.…

When it comes to the topic of animal testing, most of us will readily agree that it is a debatable topic. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether it helps researchers to find new drugs and treatments suitable for humans. Whereas some are convinced that it does help researchers find new drugs and treatments, others maintain that some drugs tested on animals may never actually be useful or even safe for human consumption. In my own view the results of animals testing are unreliable because animals and humans are not genetically or anatomically alike to one another.…

Non- animal methods typically take less time, and cost less than the cruel and controversial tests they replace. These humane research options include in vitro (tube tests), computer modeling techniques, and studies of humans themselves. The research laboratory CeeTox uses human cell based test tube toxicity screening to test various cosmetics and drugs, and VaxDesign created Modular IMmune In vitro Construct which uses cells to recreate the immune system for the testing of various vaccines. These are only two of the many cruelty free ways to ensure safe products. Not only are cruelty free methods becoming more and more cost effective, they also produce more accurate…

Though many breakthroughs have been made as a result of animal experimentation, many of the drugs that have been approved after animal testing had to be subsequently withdrawn because of harmful side effects. In fact, most experiments done on animals that are nothing like human beings, such as rats and mice. This undermines the dispute that these experiments are a reliable guide to human reactions. Scientifically, as well as morally, most animal experimentation is to be rejected as the reaction of a mouse to a substance is no guide to human reactions. Each species has its own unique…

Animal testing has always been a dispute between people; some people think it’s morally wrong and some people think it helps with medical and scientific breakthroughs. Drugs that people use or cosmetics that are used could have been tested through animals before being stocked on shelves. About 800 animals are tested on before a drug is passed to clinical trials (“Is animal”). Many animals get tested on, but many like mice, rabbits, hamsters, monkeys, dogs, cats, pigs, and some other animals get tested on. Animals can be used to find new advances in medical treatment and check safety for products, but these animals that get tested on can go through pain and death. Animal testing is wrong and should be stopped because…

Animal testing is a very disagreeable process that should not be allowed. Animals should be treated with the same respect as humans. Animals have feelings and organs and bodies just like us. They feel every bit of pain they endure. Why should these innocent animals be tested its unethical, wasteful, and they have rights just like humans.…

Animal testing is a very controversial practice, involving the testing of new substances on animals to see how safe they will be for human use. (Vasen, 2011) Research has uncovered many cures for deathly diseases through animal testing. For over 2000 years cures for diseases such as Herpes, Hepatitis B, Rabies, Malaria, Polio and other such viruses have been created, through the use of testing the chemicals on animals such as mice, rabbits, cats, dogs or monkeys. (Shandilya, 2011) Animal Testing holds much criticism, and gets much scrutiny from anti Animal-Testing groups such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and CAAT (Coalition to Abolish Animal Testing). The controversy behind animal testing is that there are so many petitions against animal testing and some people go as far as to not consume products like toothpaste or…

I think that people should stop testing products on animals. If they want to test new products they should test it on humans. Testing these products on animals can kill them. They need to find something else to test products on other than animals. Other people think that's its fine to test products on animals. People shouldn't test these products on animals. I disagree with Animal Experimentation. Millions of these animals suffer and die from this. Testing these products on animals can blind them. Testing these products on animals can affect the population of certain breeds. Why do they test products on animals? They test these products on animals so they don't have to test it on humans, but i think that it would be better if they tested it on humans who volunteered to test these products instead of some innocent animal.…

First of all, animal test is the most effective experimental method in medical science. Animal test is still the most reliable method because animals share many commons with human. For instance, the rats share about 90% of human genes and humans and chimpanzees are 99% genetically identical. So, most of the physiological reactions happened in human body and animal body are the same. Thus, the results of test animal are reliable in most cases. Moreover, the importance of animal test has been proved by the achievements obtained by using animal test. As we know, all kinds of new drugs need animal test to prove that they are non-toxic before they are used in treatment. By using animal test, more than 20 kinds of new drugs are introduced to the market every year in USA. If we don’t use animal test, volunteers would be the only way to test drugs. However, the number of volunteers is limited, because it is very difficult to…
