What I Learned in High School
Although I am only 18, many events in my life have changed the outlook I have on life for better or worse. I would have to say one experience I had in my high school years took both outlooks and tied them into one. Freshmen year I attended a small catholic school in Florida. Not being too excited about attending, my parents insisted because it was closer than the other local Catholic High School. Being extremely unhappy all year I think I learned my first invaluable trait: If you don’t look on the bright side of things no one else is going to for you. Although unhappy, I was fortunate enough to attend private school. Giving into my pleas, my parents transferred me to the other local catholic school sophomore year. Even though the transfer was what I wanted, the change was hard. From school to school, the caliber of person was a world of difference. I had to learn to relate to a whole new group of people. The best thing that came out of my sophomore year was joining my schools speech and debate team. Speech and debate has changed my life in so many ways. It has crafted me to be a more outgoing person, a more informed citizen and a better friend. Participating in this activity has forced me to leave my comfort zone more than once, and see what others are like from all over. I would have to say sophomore year I learned the 2nd trait I value: adaptability. Between school, speech and debate and trying to make friends I had to conform to a completely new way of life only my second year into high school. Unfortunately, the summer of my junior year my parents decided to move us to Georgia. Devastated, I now attended my third school in three years. Feeling alone and not knowing what to do, I once again turned to my favorite thing, Speech and debate. My school in Florida had a very large Speech and debate team, and my new school in Georgia had a very small team. Reluctantly, I made the best of the situation at hand. I quickly proved I had knowledge on the activity and was

For school, the thing that has changed was my grades have improved so that I was able to get principal's list. My life has changed because I have found out about my true friends and my “fake” friends. The ones that I know more outside of school are my true friends but the ones that I don’t talk to at all is different. This helped me change the way I look at people and kinda prejudge. The fact that I never was the type to give up showed and reflected throughout everything that has happened in my life. Also, I do not give up in the classroom even if the work is difficult or unmanageable. I do not like leaving work unfinished, but I do whatever it takes to complete it. Not only in the classroom does my attitude help me out, but also when it comes to family and friends. Family and friends mean everything to me and I will do anything to make things right between us.…

Things that I have learned so far about high school is that the more you will realize who your friends are they will really start showing you their “true colors”. Furthermore balancing the workload is a very hard task because you have extra curriculum and other responsibilities dealing with your household. Being in high school you aren't going to get pampered or a teacher constantly coming to you, tell you that you have work due , missing assignments , being in class on time and keeping up with your grades . Also , I have learned that you shouldn't wait unit the last minute to turn work in or ask for extra credit , most certainty you shouldn't wait until the day before the due date to turn in your assignments . By having other classes that will be due…

The beginning of my freshman year in high school changed my life. I had set many types of goals for myself this year including making friends, helping others and being a part of the most incredible organization, Blue Guards. Blue Guards is apart of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Oxon Hill High School. Blue Guards was not only a drill team, it was a family, a family of girls and boys working together, leading others, having discipline, and respecting each other as a team. Walking into the first day of school knowing I was going to be part of this team made me light up like a light bulb.…

In high school, I was so nervous about driving that I did not receive my license until six months after my birthday. Even after I had my license, I would create reasons to have my parents transport me places. Now I am able to drive comfortably. I also have learned how to pump gas and use a credit card. Perhaps my biggest change in society is my understanding of how people view me. I can control the way people perceive me, and it is important to present the best version of myself. By being sloppy, you can harm job prospects or relationships without even knowing it. I now take into account the version of me I present to the…

    Who Has Impacted My Life

Once you start school, you meet more people and experience more events that could possibly impact your life. I have a younger sister and we often compete with grades. This is a very positive impact because it pushes both of us to strive harder to make good grades. Another impact involving school is the transition I had from Lamar Consolidated High School to George Ranch High School when I was in tenth grade. This transition was very rough. The work ethic at George Ranch was way more demanding than it was at Lamar. At first, I thought this was a negative impact because of all of the hard work I had to study more for, but when I actually thought about it I realized that all of this hard work will prepare me for college. Therefore, this impact also turned out to be a positive one. Another important thing that has impacted my life is cheerleading. Though many people may think all cheerleaders do is just chant at football games, it is way more than that. We are required to cheer at many of our school’s sporting events and attend most of the school functions. This sometimes becomes really stressful and challenging, especially when I know that I have a…
