What Science Has Made for Us
DEBATE
Good Morning ma’am and my dear friends, today, we all are present here to debate on the motion “Has Science made our lives more easy and comfortable?” I am going to speak against the motion.
Dear friends, some say science is a boon and some say that it is a bane. According to me it is a bane as every thing has both cons and pros, but the decision is made by observing which side is better.
Nowadays science has made great progress in every aspect. In fact, the century we are living in has been called the machine age. We feel the presence of science whenever we go. And the benefits it has brought to mankind are boundless.

First, science has brought comfort to human mental life. The most wonderful invention of science is, in my opinion, the electronic computer. With lightening speed, it can help us solve lots of thorny problems which took man quite a very long time to do with his brain.

Second, science has made our material lives easier. It takes a housewife a few minutes to prepare breakfast if she has enough modern facilities. Eggs are cooking on the electric stove, bread is being toasted in an electric toaster and coffee is being made in an electric coffee maker. From the electric refrigerator she takes a can of orange juice and opens it with an electric can opener. Breakfast is ready in very short time.

Third, science has brought about the shortening of space. Different means of communication and transportation have been increasingly invented and improved. We are no longer slaves to the universe as we used to be but masters of the whole air and sea areas by means of airplanes and steamships.
Although science has changed the face of the world, and has, of course, given many things that benefits man. But the evils that it has showered on man wash away the advantages. It has made man depend on machines, calculators and computers. A day may come when his physical and mental faculties may grow so weak that he may not be able to lift a bag or solve

From my car, saving me from having to walk long distances, to my microwave that allows me to prepare food quickly, science has made my life easier. I am able to have an indoor job working on a computer because of science. I also get to enjoy year-round air-conditioning and heat. At any given time, I can use a phone to call someone thousands of miles of away, and speak to them just as if they were standing right next to me. Science has given me machinery to automate things, electricity to power all my electrical products, as well as better medicine, and a more evolved understanding of myself and the world I live in. If science did not exist, I would have to do things the long way, and have to do them manually. The world would be a much harder place to live in without the hope of a better tomorrow. And ultimately, that is what science gives me,…

It is safe to say that everyone agrees that technology has evolved way beyond what people who lived centuries ago could anticipate. Many inventions have paved the way for our modern technologies. The only reason why technology has grown the way it has is all because of science. Science is responsible for how society is today, no matter what ones views are of our modern society. Although it is true that science has had many great contributions to the world, it is argued that it has also made negative effects as well. Although some critics may disagree, these negative affects should be solved outside the realm of science.…

Though we welcome these blessings of science, we have to consider the other side of the picture also. Man has not been able to face the problems created by the inventions of science and to stop the misuse or harmful consequences of scientific inventions. Factories have polluted the water and the atmosphere. They have caused noise pollution. Industrialization have led to slums in which human beings live a degraded life in the midst of filth and squalor. We have allowed science to master us instead of keeping it our servant. Medical inventions have,…
