Right after she started she began do have doubts about whether or not she could finish a degree or not. I encouraged her in every way I could think of but nothing really helped until I enrolled in SNHU. She was so proud that she was able to help out her big brother with things that she had been through and this made her confidence soar. The second reason was my bucket list. After reading Peter Cappelli article “Why focusing too Narrowly in College Could Backfire” I started to think about my own educational goals and why I chose to be a hairstylist. When I graduated from high school I attend beauty college, at that time the beauty industry was booming. There was a salon on every corner. There was always walk- ins and new clients available for stylist. Now with the social media craze like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, the African American salon business has fallen because social media outlets. These outlets, teach ordinary people how to do their own hair, and caused stylist to lose clients. We also have the natural hair movement, that took clients that would normally come into the salon for hair weaves and relaxers, and are now wearing their hair in its natural state and don’t need the salon anymore. Another major down fall to African American salon industry was manufacturing companies like L’Oréal and Shea moisture that promotes salon quality products on YouTube for the naturalista. These were a few major changes that happen in…

It explains how college graduates are feeling more overqualified for the job that they do. Due to the fact that they are getting paid as much as with a degree that they had. It also explains that college graduates who actually graduate with a four-year degree are going to get paid more salary-wise then they did before many years ago. One of the major downfalls was that they aren't getting paid the wages that they should be. Therefore I believe that pursuing a college career and attending university is worth it because you have the opportunity to expand your education, you'll eventually be paid more than…

To say that I dedicated numerous amounts of hours deciphering the purpose of why I’m going to college would be a lie. For years I have always thought that college is somewhere you just go after high school. I believed that it is only somewhere you go to start your career and in turn make a lot of money. In fact, this “purpose” is what has been institutionalized within U.S. citizens under this Capitalist system. We are told to go to college so we can get jobs where we can make money, buy a big house, start a family, and live the lifestyles we have always dreamed of. For a very long time this was my only goal in life: to go to college so I can get a well-paying job to afford the lifestyle that I want to live. I never put much thought into what…

Education is the most important part of my life. Couple reasons why I attend college it’s to better myself, get a higher paying job and get away from home. First, not going to college was not an option for me; furthermore, both of my parents attended college and graduated college and they have the jobs they always wanted. They always encouraged me to get a higher education and I agree. When I see people that struggle with finances because they didn’t go to college; certainly, it made me want to go and get my bachelor’s degree even faster. Second, I do not want to live my life, paycheck to paycheck, and worrying about whether or not I am going to have enough money to pay to keep a roof over my head. The reason for going to college is that I want to have a better life. Finally, college is vital to how far you can go. If I would settle only for a High school diploma or less, I would not go as far as I want to go; I will keep hopping from one dead-end job to another; for instance, my friend who have worked everywhere and is never happy because of the hard work she has to do and little money she gets. I would want to be more as a college graduate who is at home relaxing in my huge house, watching my sixty-four inch Plasma TV in High Definition. I believe that college will lead me to a life of fulfillment and realized dreams. No one ever regretted going to college, I wish I could say the same for the person who…

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…
