What Is The Privilege Of Being Able To Graduate From High School
I had the privilege of being able to graduate from high school at the young age of sixteen.
I had the advantage to travel to South America where I was able to experience how native children lived. I taught English to first and second graders of low income families.
I saw how their families made them dropped out of school at the age of ten to go to work at the street to be able to provide for their families.
As an American I had the ability to finish high school but in some countries children don’t have this privilege.

How would you have felt if at the young age of twelve your parents told you that you are unable to attend school because instead you had to go to the streets to sell gum?

Statistic show that on average more than 226 million

Prior to this activity, I was skeptical that I would not learn anything beneficial or enlightening. After a little debate, I decided to move forward in watching the documentary Poor America. Although this was a short documentary, I felt that every second was impactful. This documentary was the perfect introduction to allow myself to develop within this series of multicultural activities. I felt engaged during the documentary because it showed several different people going through something similar that I have thankfully not had to experience in my life. Prior to this documentary, I do not believe I was aware of true poverty. A lot of the things that I had growing up I did not realize they were such a privilege. Although small, this experience as help me develop a better understanding.…

Overall, this experience was very rewarding because we created nothing into something and as a result our project helped families who generally have lower incomes have the necessary school supplies for their children to be successful in school without forcing them to give up something else up. This project has opened my eyes to things happening around me and allowed me to become a more active and engaged community member while I was able to delve deeper into something that I'm interested and passionate…

We learned how people in the poverty lived. This learning experienced opened up new opportunities and chances to help people in need, Lots of people all over the world are in poverty and have a difficult time finding jobs. These people have families they need to care for, however if they do not even have a sufficient home that can keep them safe, it is very difficult to do this. This experience was meaningful to me in the sense that there are people like me that are fortunate to have a safe home and live a life where I have two parents that have jobs and care for me. Not everyone has that. This learning experience has made me strive to do more for my community and the rest of society by helping those in need in any way possible. Even if it is something as simple as helping at a soup kitchen or pantry, every little bit…

There is no law that makes all kids that are under the age of 18 to go to school, there are public schools but there aren't enough resources in the schools such as books or even chalk to write on the boards. The system isn't completely sunshine and rainbows like in the U.S having counselors and college readiness class that teach us and help us get ready for college, many students get terrified of going to college because they don’t fully understand the concept of going to college and what it is like. And for families that live in the countryside are forced to walk more than 2 miles away to even get to school and learn on an empty stomach. For many people like Analdo Sanchez, who has studied in the Dominican Republic his whole life says ”There is no future and you will be working for your life to have a plate on the table.” For him highschool as just a lot of work and no help, at the end of the school day he would go home and try to do his homework by himself. In his school and in many others there aren’t people to there to talk to you about how college was like. We asked him if he felt as if school helped him prepare for college and he says, “No definitely not, they only tell you the material, going to the university for me was like starting over, but in the public…

In tenth grade, I went on a missions trip with my church to Mink Lake, which is a camp by the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota. During the missions trip, we prepared a camp for the summer. Some of my personal jobs were to help clean out two sheds and reorganize them, haul logs, and trim trees all over the camp. The trip benefitted myself and the other people on the missions trip because we were able to help people have a fun experience at camp over the summer, and we also helped the people running the camp to not have to work so hard to prepare the camp for the summer campers. Another reason it was a good experience for all of us workers is because we did not have our cell phones, so we were able to form new relationships with each other since we were not constantly distracted by our…

Privilege is a right that you have that others do not. Being privilege might be an advantage to you compared to others. In high school I was privilege to walk around the school without a hall pass. One reason was because I was outgoing and familiarized myself with the faculty. They knew I was not going to get into trouble despite the rule that students are not allowed out of the classroom without a pass. In some cases, the teachers had to seek out students in the hall to see if they had a pass but they never asked for a pass when I was in the hallway. I also think as students we are privilege to attend Wabash…
