What Is Google's Self-Driving Car?
Google’s self-driving cars use a number of technologies that help the car drive itself through busy streets, all by itself. These include technologies like a laser range finder, front camera, rear radar, a Global Positioning System and multiple programs that interpret the surrounding of the vehicle. This is a technology that a lot of companies are working on but Google has a very good way of doing it.
The first major technology that the Google Self-Driving Car uses is a laser range finder. (National, 2015) The laser range finder used on Google’s Self-Driving Car shoots 64 different laser beams, in every possible direction. It does this to create a somewhat sonar-like image to gather data for the onboard computer. These lasers will determine

Google Glass is a titanium frame that is worn upon your head just as you would a normal pair of glasses. The main difference is that instead of having a pair of lenses, the device has a single “prism” lens that works as a visual overlay. (Forinash, 2015) “The prism is made of a silicon composite that easily transfers the picture. To the right of the prism is the camera that recognizes everything that is happening around the user. The CPU that powers Google Glass is located in the right leg of the device. Also in the compartment are the speakers and the microphone. At the end of the right leg is where the battery is located. (www) Google has taken this to a whole new level with the creation of Google Earth and Google Maps. Through a series of satellite imagery collection and human driven cars imagery collection, Google has slowly been documenting the entire world. Through all of this data collection, google has retrieved 21 million gigabytes of picture data. With all of these pictures, Google has been able to piece together the world in which a way that everyone can use and understand. Google updates all of its data on a regular basis that is rather impressive. Google can update satellite images about every one to two weeks depending on a few factors. (Petronzio, 2012) With imagery being updated this quickly, it is difficult for Google to control any inappropriate content that may arise from unscheduled data collection. If google does detect that something in the photo is inappropriate, they will remove or blur out the image. If a user detects and inappropriate image, Google has a feature to report such images. (Petronzio, 2012) If there is property that is considered private for either personal, commercial or governmental reason, one can petition to get that area continually blurred out. Something that was interesting about Google’s imagery collection is that it does not own the satellites that collect its images. Google pays numerous different entities to use the satellites that they have launched into space to obtain

Main ideas : The main idea of this self driving car is basically to reduce road traffic accidents from a number of different factors e.g. drink driving, speeding and using technology such as mobile phones ect whilst driving. Daniel stated in the article that “ your automated car isnt sitting around getting distracted, making a phone call, looing at somthing it shouldnt be looking at or simply not keeping track of things,” googles car adheres strictly to the speed limit and follows the rules of the road. If you could truly trust the intelligence of the vehicle, then you could get in and do your work while you travel, says Lynee Irwin, an engineer and director of the local roads program at cornell University, and then is quoted saying “That would stretch my day, it would make me more productive.” Daniel continues to say traffic usally slows when the volume of cars on the road increases because drivers slow to accomadate the narrowed distance from the car aheadof them. “you could get a lot more people moved at higher speed on an existing road way,” he says “congestion would be somthing you could tell your grandchildern about, once upon at time.” He then goes on to say it would benifit non mobile people e.g dislabled, “They can see the personal automobile as a service provider.” He then goes on to talk about using the car a a personal carridge vehicle to do the “school run,” and for “long distance driving.” Also googles car is a modified version of toyotas prius, but they say “When you get to a technichal change, the first thing we do is mimic what people are familiar with and comfortable with.” “People like to look out the window so i suspect we’ll keep windows in some…

For Self-driving cars to function correctly and efficiently they need to communicate with each other, helping to locate traffic problems and dangers on the road early on. Sensors in the self-driving cars allow vehicles to drive on the road closer together without any accidents therefore eliminating traffic. Self driving cars are so smart, they can drive around and pick people up and just drop them off. Sebastian Thrun once said " Self-driving cars will enable car-sharing even in spread-out suburbs. A car will come to you just when you need it. And when you are done with it, the car will just drive away, so you won't even have to look for parking". Think about how much easier things would be if we had self-driving cars. All the advanced sensors on the car will avoid any traffic and if the majority of the cars on the road are self-driving cars, then we wouldn't have to worry about any kind of…
