What Is Enrico Fermium?
“It is no good to try to stop knowledge from going forward. Ignorance is never better than knowledge.” If you stop going forward and finding new things you will never learn and it is always better to know more rather than to know nothing all as if it was never there. Enrico never stopped learning and moving forward even when a challenge arose. Fermi lost his family, focused on his work and learning new things, escaped fascism, and was a brilliant physicist and inventor.

Enrico Fermi was born in Rome, Italy, on September 29, 1901(Osti Paragraph 2). He is the son of Alberto Fermi the Chief inspector of the Ministry of Communications(Nobel Paragraph 1). His mother Ida de Gattis was a school teacher and taught in elementary school for most

On December 2, 1942 the first self-sustaining chain reaction and initiated the controlled release of nuclear energy(Osti Paragraph 5). This pile was built under the west stand of the University’s Stagg Fields and was named Chicago Pile-1. It proved a nuclear reaction could be contained and this was the first prototype of many large nuclear reactors to come(Britannica Paragraph 2). Fermium is the 100th element on the periodic table. It was discovered after the first successful test of a hydrogen fusion bomb Ivy Mike(Osti Paragraph 1). Fermi used neutrino an element that had been abandoned and used it for his theory of beta-decay where balance is restored. His theory was proven correct and was manifestation of the weak force. Beta decay is one process that unstable atoms can use to become more stable. He went on to work on radioactivity by manipulation of the speed of neutrons from the radioactive element beryllium(Britannica Paragraph 6). Fermi was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for work on artificial radioactivity produced by neutrons and for nuclear reactions to occur by slowing the neutrons(Nobel Prize Paragraph 14). An award was even named after him the Enrico Fermi award recognizes scientists of international stature for their lifetime and achievements in the development of energy(Osti Paragraph
