Childhood memories of dinnertime hold a special place in my heart. What used to be a daily experience of family unity and sharing is unfortunately now reserved for holidays and an occasional Sunday or birthday gathering. Rather than each family member drifting into his or her own individual world as their life grew busier, we always had the interaction during mealtime to strengthen our family bonds and enrich the daily experience of community life. My mother would create a meal consisting of either a pasta, or meat and potato type meal for our family of six. Our evening meal always included a salad, plenty of vegetables, and a basic dessert like brownies, pie, or ice cream. There was never an official dinner time since my dad’s schedule varied. Therefore,…

Throughout my readings of Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography by John Crossan, I went in with somewhat low expectations. My reason for this was that the topic of religion, christianity especially was something I did not have too much care for. After finishing the book however, it did enlighten some questions I had on the religion. One answer that came into light when I read the book was concerning the gospels and testaments. I wonder why was there a need to have so many different variants, with minor differences in between them. As I went through the book, it becomes a bit more clear to me, as combining the different perspectives of Christianity will allow for a great combined experience. The second thing that was a bit more clear was on the topic of other great Christian tales such as the tale with Moses and how it relates to Jesus.…

Often women are oppressed by society, but when the issue is of color these challenges are harder to avoid. This does not only occur in this novel, but exists today in the real world. Many Latina females are often discriminated and harassed by societal influences, which makes them feel forced into specific roles. As seen in Under the Feet of Jesus, Estrella is a victim of these ongoing challenges, for being part of a low socioeconomic status, lack of education, and not being a legal U.S. citizen.…

Habakkuk is a book of the Minor Prophets that portrays Jesus as the God of our Salvation as the theme throughout the book. Written between 627 and 605 B.C., Habakkuk, grieved by the iniquity of the wicked in Judah, questions God as to how long He will endure it. The righteous were being abused by the wicked who stole what they had and perverted the courts. The laws of God were broken and idols were worshiped. In the form of a dialogue, God answers Habakkuk's complaint. He has not been pleased with the iniquity He has witnessed. Therefore, Judah will be punished so sternly that is will amaze all who see it. Judah will be taken captive by Babylon known for its cruelty, self absorption, idolatry and skill in battle. Jesus was a Jew, believed by all Christians to be the son of God. However the Jewish religion does not recognize him as the son of God; why is that? The Jewish religion believes that Jesus was a prophet, but not the “Messiah” only because he did not fulfill the messianic prophecies, Jesus did not embody the personal qualifications of the Messiah, and the Biblical verses referring to Jesus were “ mistranslated”. What was the Messiah supposed to accomplish?…

The founder I have chosen is Jesus. In my opinion Jesus was the most successful founder among all of the other founders because he was able to spread the faith of Christianity to different parts of the world. One of the reasons why I think Jesus was successful is that today there are over 2000 million Christians – largest religion in the world.…

Since my very first English class back in elementary, I was taught how to use pronouns. The thing about pronouns is that you need to know the sex of the person you are trying to talk about. The pronouns “he or she”, in English terms, is not an acceptable manner to use for both genders. But what if we were to be considerate to other’s opinions and personal views on gender identity? What if we let go of the need to contemplate on how to identify them?…

    Trying To Be Like Jesus

I am attempting to seek Jesus daily by spending time with God in the morning before I start my day and finishing my day with him by praying each night. I also try to spread his love though out my day, by my actions and showing love to others. I use the words attempting and trying because I am a human and I often fail, especially by a Christ like standard, and it always an uphill struggle. I believe that trying is the key because if you expect yourself to live like Christ all of the time and spend an hour on quiet time every morning you will end up discouraged and unwilling to continue the fight for a relationship with Jesus. I have bad days like everyone else, but maybe by striving to be like Jesus even on the bad days I believe I will have…
