Rat infestations is a horde of rats, mostly coming to do damage. Many people believe that the rat population does not get smaller, but it grows more. For example, Victoria Gill states, “... gigantic plagues of rats, that ruins tall crops…”. This states that there must have to been hordes in order to reach tall crops. It also shows that there must have been a lot to be able to eat everything. Also John Davison states, “Last year calls to pest controllers rose by 18%.

One reason is because of the cold rainy weather that drove the rodents from the wet sewers. According to John Davison, “ Recent cold weather and flooding is believed to have led the disease-carrying rodents to shelter indoors.” This explains that the severe weather managed to move the rats to a dry, warm, and peaceful place to be at. It also states that, the wet sewer is their natural habitat, but would rather be warm and dry. Another reason is because of their strong appetite. Just as Mrs. Gill states, “This explosion in the rodent population, leading to swarms of hungry pests, is caused by a glut in the food supply, namely bamboo seeds.” This shows that the rats were so desperate for food that they get in houses.
