1. Organizations that decide to issue bonds generally go through a series of steps. Discuss the steps.
The first step is for the borrower to evaluate its capital plan, gage its debt capacity, and get the house in order. Step 2 is for the borrower to select the parties that are to be involved with the issuance of the bond. Step 3, is for the borrower to get their credit rating, by a credit rating agency. Step 4, is for the credit rating agency to rate the bond to determine amount to be issued. Step 5, is for the borrower to enter into a loan agreement with the bond issuer. Step 6, bond are sold and the proceeds are given to the borrower.
2. An alternative to traditional equity and debt financing is leasing. Leasing is undertaken primarily for what purposes?
Leasing can help to save a company money, by avoiding interest rates that may otherwise have to pay for purchasing items needed for the company. Another reason for leasing is paying less interest that a company would by a bank loan. Ultimately leasing can help to save a company tons of money vs debt financing.
3. Discuss the two major types of leases.
According to our book the two major types of leases are capital lease and operating lease. Capital lease also known as financial lease is where the “lessor aims to lease an asset for virtually all its economic life” (Cleverly, 2011)and the lessee is committed to make these payments for the whole lease period. Operating lease involves equipment and this is a lease that is for a shorter period than the equipment’s lifespan, the lifespan is determined by depreciation value, and this lease is usually cancelable.
4. Discuss the terms short term borrowing and long-term financing
Short term borrowing/financing means funds are to be paid back in less than a year. So short term borrowing a borrower is paying less interest over that years’ time. Whereas, long term financing involves funds being paid over in over a year or greater, and means more interest to be paid

The first type of lease to consider is the direct financing lease. This lease is used by lessors in capital leases if the collections of minimum lease payments are guaranteed and the amounts of unrefundable costs are known in advance. In this type of lease the bank will buy new trucks and lease them to us instead of Princess Regional Trucking Company borrowing the money to purchase the trucks. The direct financing approach is the same as a loan. In order to arrange this type of lease we must show that the monthly payment will be met every month on time. This can be done by putting up assets to cover the payments just in case we cannot lease what is secured by the direct lease. Eliminating any question or doubt about the ability to cover the lease is the ultimate goal.…

Part A: Long-term debt can generally be classified into three different categories: bonds payable, notes payable, and capital leases. Bonds payable can be secured by collateral, such as a mortgage bond, or unsecured, backed only by a company’s promise to pay. Most bonds carry a stated rate of interest but others are sold at a discount with an implied rate of interest inherent in the discounted sale. Some bonds can be converted into other securities. Other bonds can be called in by the corporation. All of the terms and features must be disclosed in the financial statements. Any restrictions or covenants must also be disclosed. These restrictions are placed on the issuing corporation to protect the bondholder. Restrictions may include inability to pay bonuses or dividends, purchase additional capital assets, a requirement for bond sinking funds, or maintaining specified levels of working capital or debt ratios. Any violations of bond restrictions or covenants must be disclosed. Bonds are reported at face value less unamortized discount or plus unamortized premium. The current portion (due within a year) is reported as a current liability, the remainder is reported as a long-term liability. Notes payable are sums of money borrowed by a company that are evidenced by a promissory note. Notes payable have a specified maturity date and generally have a specified interest rate. Notes payable that do not have a specified interest rate are issued at a discount and the interest component is the difference between the face amount of the note and the cash received. Notes payable can also have restrictions similar to bonds payable. The discount is amortized to interest expense over the life of the note. Notes payable are recorded at the present value of the principle and the present value of the interest payments. Capital leases are a form of financing used to acquire capital assets. Companies that use lease financing that meet the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)…

Based on Mike’s behaviors and lack of professionalism and work ethic, Justin can tell that Mike is not performing his ethical duties. As the ACA Code of Ethics (2005) states, Justin should first attempt to resolve the issue informally with his colleague (ACA, 2005, p.19). Confronting another counselor about unethical behavior may be difficult and cause feelings of discomfort for both counselors involved. This is an ethical responsibility and may be the only action needed to resolve the problem (Remley & Herlihy, 2014, p. 388). Justin should approach Mike with an attitude of empathy and compassion which may help Mike to see that he needs to correct these problems. Using a judgmental attitude when discussing the problem with Mike would be unhelpful. Justin should point out that ethical standards A.1 and C.2.F are of concern. If the problem is not resolved, further action needs to be taken. If Justin believes this will cause conflict between himself and Mike, he could report any concerns to his principal, who is the person that both of these counselors report to. The principal would be the only other appropriate person to intervene in this case at this point.…

TCS has been self-funded with the extensive use of leasing. Its key benefit is to provide leverage to those who do not have a significant asset base already on their initial cash deposit. Hence, it enables small enterprise like TCS to gain access to finance. Also, given the underdeveloped capital markets, creditors' rights and collateral laws and registries would be weak. Leasing thus offers a less default risk. With the extra consideration of tax advantage over leasing, in overall, the policies make sense.…
