As seen in figure 1., the manifestation of neoliberal ideals is clearly demonstrated in this screenshot. In the comment written by Prakoso, the reasoning behind wanting immigrants to enter the country is consistent with the reasons in a neoliberal lens. Prakoso emphasizes the importance of immigrants contributing to the economy and how this could be done with an effective filter. This is translated more clearly through the requirements incoming immigrants must meet in order to enter Canada because of the focus on global competitiveness and economic growth. This view is not specific to Prakoso as highlighted in a CBC article written by Angus Reid. In the article, it is said that, “the vast majority of Canadians prefer a policy that will enhance…
Donald L. Niewyk’s fifth and sixth chapters both deal more with outside perspectives and outside reactions than it does with those who were persecuted. The fifth chapter, “Bystander Reactions,” offers four different arguments as to why bystanders acted they way they did during the Holocaust. The sixth chapter, “Possibilities of Rescue,” discusses three different viewpoints on what foreign governments could have done to prevent the Holocaust. These two chapters conclude Niewyk’s book The Holocaust and wrap up the final sequence of events surrounding the Holocaust and the camps.…

With numerous products being advertised daily, it is qutie easy to get caught up in being interested in them. While some products seem reliable, others seem “too good to be true,” or in other words, a complete lie. In this case “The Onion publishes a mock article that is satirizing how products are marketed to consumers. As ridiculous, and absurd, as this process maybe, it doesn't stray far from typical marketing rituals. This article discusses the magnasoles company/products using the advantages and “powers” of the insoles, the price, and consumer quotes to advertize and sell their product. Each strategy is humorous and pathetic, and that is what The Onion is expressing.…
Since the first migration of settlers began, America has always boasted itself` as the land of the free, the home of the brave, and a haven for all; however, when one peers deeper into the eloquently written half promises of freedom laid out in the Declaration of Independence, the reality is far from what is portrayed. From manifest destiny to slavery, discrimination has been engraved in the American way of life from the beginning. Over the centuries, there have been many instances where America has provided onlookers a glimpse of its true beliefs on issues such as race, but none more assertive than that of the court case Dred Scott v. Sanford. Dred Scott was a slave who once belonged the family of Peter Blow, but was later sold to the army…
It is possible as well that some critics believe Clinton’s voice represents her lack of capability to be president because her pitch is closer to that of a child’s than a man’s voice typically is. The correlations found in West and Zimmerman’s research on the nature of interruptions in conversations between men and women and parents and children reveals a potential explanation as to why women in politics may be received with less conviction. West and Zimmerman concluded that men interrupt women similarly to how adults interrupt children. According to their findings, women are more likely to be ignored or restricted by the men they are speaking with and men interrupt when they deem what a woman is saying is problematic (West and Zimmerman).…
Opinions regarding the prospective benefits and drawbacks of Wal-Mart have been shared for years. When Robert Reich published his essay, “Don’t Blame Wal-Mart”, in 2005 he tried to change the conversation from the corporation to the consumer. In order to achieve a successful essay, it is vital for a writer to successfully incorporate various criteria such as organization, tone, evidence, logos, pathos, and more. Utilizing these criteria will assist a writer in constructing a powerful essay that conveys an argument which the reader can understand and support. Reich’s essay is effective because of the tone and pathos utilized in his article; however, he doesn’t sufficiently back his claims which prevents this essay from becoming a complete success.…

I chose to use the 2012 Presidential General Election, because I remember this election the most detailed. The candidates running for the democratic side were Barack Obama for president and Joe Biden for vice president. Running for the republican side were Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. The presidential candidates for the libertarian party were Gary Johnson and his vice presidential candidate James Gary. The overall winner(s) of the 2012 Presidential election was/were President Barak Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.…
I've always felt that the conservative argument against any form of social aid springs from pure self-righteous delusions. These conservatives are hasty to claim that no one has ever helped them, so they have no cause to help others. Let us set aside that as Americans, Americans should be compelled, even slightly, to help fellow Americans in need. Better yet, as citizens of the world, everyone should be compelled to help fellow global citizens. Let us set aside ideas of global obligation, compassion, and interconnectedness—that we are in fact not islands unto ourselves and that every bell tolls for each and every one of us.…
Since the decreased use of drone from the Bush to the Obama administration, many people are wondering whether or not drone strike have been beneficial to the United Stats and the countries they are protecting. Considering the countless lives taken and the anger towards the United States, on the other hand, many people would agree that a strong military defense is vital in securing the safety of all Americans and their allies. How ever so is long-term peace and stability for one’s country, which the Obama administration has not been able to deliver in the Middle East. Although this may be true that the Obama administration has achieved its goal by disrupting terrorist plots…
