An example that showed he was an intelligent leader was that when he started to trade sandalwood “he placed a kapu on young trees in order to conserve this natural resource” (26). He did this so that they could get more out of that tree when it becomes older rather than when the tree is young, the tree can’t give as much. This kapu was resourceful so that they can get more out of a tree by conserving it until it is older so that if they cut it while it’s young, there would only be a little bit of the tree and they would waste part of a tree since they could’ve just saved it and got more to trade. This was good since Kamehameha started to trade, he was becoming resourceful and better at trading while in the process of placing this kapu. This was very effective since all the maka’ainana could see that Kamehameha was resourceful, very wise, and…

Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was able to form great relationships, and make strong allies. He made and kept good relationships, because after the Hawaiian Islands were united he kept his most trustworthy allies on the islands furthest away from him. This helped him, because he could trust them so he knew that he would not have to keep watching over them and keeping less trustworthy people nearer to him allowed him to keep an eye on them, making sure that nothing would go wrong. Another way that he kept good relationships was he made the people, who had helped him to unify the islands, governors of the different islands. This allowed for more order and control over the islands. The governors of the different island would help…
