Firstly: in chapter 5, when jacob decided to join the LRA to share his food with Norman because he think that Norman is too weak and young to fight and stay a weeks without food, he knew that Norman will die if he didn’t eat. “Unless we have food we will die soon, Norman surely will too,but he is too weak to fight. If i join the battle i can share my food with him”. So Jacob just put his friend over himself, he thought about his friend before thinking about himself. And I connected this part with the time that I forgot my lunch at home and had nothing to eat,but surely my best friend gave me all her lunch, deciding not to eat anything and just give me her whole lunch, so basically my friend and Jacob are both the same, they both put their friends over all, they both thinks about friends first, they both may do something that they never want just for their friends. Secondly: when Jacob met Hannah in chapter 7, after they both escaped and separated, he was just too shocked but so glad to see her fine after all these months he was too excited so he jumped to her and hugged her for too long, he did not even realized himself, he totally forgot about her dream of being a nun and that she might achieved it and they were both laughing too much. “Hannah, i’m so glad to see you again! Oh sorry i didn’t what’s wrong? I mean are you a nun now? Hahahaha no i’m

“An exciting adventure.” That was the mentality of boys and men all over the North and South, leading up to the Civil war. Seeing an alternative to the monotonous farm life, many men were eager and filled with anticipation at the thought of being in a war. In The Boys War by Jim Murphy, these men and boys learn the truth about war. Many preconceptions are shattered, and fantasies are broken wide open by reality. One common misconception was that the fighting would be constant, but this was not the case. When soldiers were not marching, being drilled, or in the midst of a skirmish, there was often leisure time. During these periods, men and boys were free to pursue activities and games. Gambling, pulling pranks, and occasional fraternization were three pastimes of men and boys alike during the war.…

In the book, A Separate Peace, the author, John Knowles, writes to us a novel about war, but happens to focus more on the war within the human heart. This novel tells a story of two boys’ co-dependency during World War Two, and explores the difficulties with understanding the self during adolescence. Identity is complicated enough as the narrator, Gene Forrester, enters adulthood in a time of war, but a difficult friendship with a fellow student and rival leads to a further confusion of identity. Early in the book, the boys’ relationship is charged by Gene’s jealousy and hate of Phineas’ leadership. However, after Phineas falls from the tree, Gene ejects his darker feelings from himself and turns their relationship in a new direction where co-dependency, instead of envy, drives it. The central relationship between…

Gebreyesus Hailu’s The Conscript is a short novel about the struggles of soldiers conscripted to fight in Libya under the Italians. The main character of the story is Tuquabo Medhaniye Alem, a kind-hearted and enthusiastic young man. Upon joining the war, Tuquabo left behind his fairly old parents, a nice home and even a herd of cattle. This signified great wealth back then, so Tuquabo family was a relatively stable family in terms of money. As he grew up, Tuquabo heard many songs that displayed fighting in the Libya war as an exciting and honorable experience. He wanted to go to war and come back a “hero.” Hailu stated “his ambition may have also been influenced by those Habesha chiefs who said they hated to sit idle after a brief break from going to war.” But unfortunately, all these songs and rumors about the war were just that, rumors. In reality, the Libya war was a horrible experience for all the conscripts and their families. Hailu is able to portray the war as it truly was; a way that makes the reader sympathetic for Tuquabo and his family, while at the same time giving important details about the war.…

An significant socio-cultural factor in this case is the history of civil war in Sierra Leone. The client mentions stories from his father's days about liberation of the country and unspoken atrocities regarding violence ensued by child soldiers in the past. This political instability leads to cultural fear, mistrust in government and confusion of safety (Betancourt et al., 2010). Additionally, the lack of communication about children and warfare to the children are all contributing factors to the clients transition to soldier of war (Shepler, 2005). All of these issues are seen in the clients experiences throughout. Thus…
