Waiting For Next Play Summary
The play is called Waiting For Next. It was written and directed by Jeffrey Lo. The play was written in 2014. When written Jeffrey had a very specific casting in mind as the characters are based off two friends of his and they are the only two participants in the play.
In Waiting For Next we watch our two protagonists Frank and Marcus as they journey through life. The play starts with Frank and Marcus when they are in high school as they both are waiting to be picked up by their parents leading to their life long friendship. We then follow Frank and Marcus watching as they wait to pick up their prom dates then Frank goes to college will Marcus works minimum wage jobs after which it becomes Franks wedding with Marcus being the best man moving …show more content…
It started out as the opening scene and has been reworked into what it is now. The overlying theme is Friendship and someone being there for you which is apparent as the story goes through important parts of their lives with each other. It also has an underlying tone of change in both the negative and positive. At the start and up to the middle Frank is the successful one who goes to college then finds a job and gets married will Marcus is working minimum wage jobs and keeps going from failed relationship to relationship eventually winding up in jail. Then it changes Marcus is the one who has a happy life and is working to better himself he has quite drinking will keeping a stead relationship that last for the rest of the play and ends with him opening a restaurant will Frank starts off as the successful one going to college then finding a good job and getting married. Then it takes a turn as he Divorces his wife realizing he is no longer happy with her then becoming depressed and unable to find a meaningful relationship will having to pay child support to his remarried wife. He wrote the play for two friends as the source and it shows by telling just how well through key events in their lives showing just how important friendship is and that change can always

    The event I attended was one of the many plays that takes place on campus in the arts building. The play I specifically attended was called Appropriate, which was originally written by playwright, Branden Jacobs Jenkins. The play was approximately 3 hours in length with an intermission included into that time. Overall, the play specifically deals with family conflict and the whole idea of race itself. All of the main characters in the play are all interconnected family members that originally are from the south. The main characters included: Toni (eldest sister who recently lost her job and is divorced, Frank (youngest brother who was a past drug used and alcoholic), and Bo (eldest brother who is a wealthy businessman). The more secondary characters in the play included: Rachel (Bo's Jewish wife), Ainsley (Bo and Rachel's youngest daughter), Cassidy (Bo and Rachel's eldest daughter, River (Frank's Fiancée), and Rhys (Toni's son) Ugly family secrets are uncovered in this play, while a family sorts through the estate of their deceased father. A grueling photo album is found during the whole cleanup process and it arises a variety of conflict. The photo album contained pictures of African Americans being lynched, abused, and dehumanized. This lead to the belief that the deceased father/grandfather of the family was a racist and possibly a part of the Klu Klux Klan at some point in time in the past.     The plot of the play is fairly simple and is, in fact, purely a development of its title. Its description is rather ambiguous, for while one may think that no action whatsoever takes place throughout the play, another might suppose otherwise.
