Waiting for Godot Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot is a mid 20th century play belonging to the genre of the "Theatre of the Absurd", and focusing on the senselessness of the human condition. The idea of the absurd is a major theme in Waiting for Godot and is embodied in its main characters. Estragon (Gogo) and Vladimir (Didi), taken together, represent the universal man facing the world. Beckett uses each character to show the limitations and absurdity of different aspects of human existence. The pair of Vladimir and Estragon exemplifies, in the metaphysical level, the dichotomy of man's nature in body and mind, and illustrates the limitations and senselessness of these parts of human nature.…

The play Waiting for Godot is basically a play were nothing happens. It’s a play about waiting for this person Godot. The play deals with existentialism and depending on your interpretation it deals with religion, god and duality. I feel that the play speaks about the brain versus body and how although they may not work well together they may be happier and better on their own you cannot go without the other, they can’t be separated and still function. The basis of the play is that you have these two men Vladimir and estragon and everyday they come to this tree were Godot has said he's going to meet them. while they wait every day he doesn't show up so its them waiting for Godot and continuing to wait for him even though deep down I think they know that he's not going to show up. People would interpret the play as being Godot is God so they're waiting for God to show up but my interpretation of the play is that it's just them waiting for hope and for something to alleviate their terrible situation. What I understood from the play is that both Vladimir and estragon are homeless, don't have anywhere to go and both of them are always in pain in one way or another. Vladimir has pain in his groin area at estragon has foot pain all the time. Neither of them is happy in their circumstances so Godot for them is the hope that something or someone will come along and be there savior religious or otherwise just someone to save them and take them away from the situation that's making them unhappy. Furthermore that to me is why they continue to wait every single day even though deep down I think that they know Godot is never going to show up. It’s just the hope that they have and the idea that maybe this time Godot will show up and if they did leave the idea of what if he did show up. I think that as human beings that's something that all of us can relate to regardless of the differentiation in our surroundings and of our circumstances whether you're rich poor homeless with a…
