Voting For the Wrong Reason
Natalya Hill
Ivy Tech Community College

I have to argue the fact that people who vote for the wrong reason, are just as at fault as the president of the United States of America. When citizen of the United States of America vote for president because of their own personal beliefs and views, they should think twice about voting for those reasons. When a presidential candidate is campaigning to become president and they express their personal views, people should go by facts and not someone else personal views whether they. Some Presidential candidates talk about how they do not believe in same sex marriages and if they become president they will not let same sex marry. Now a person who dislikes gays will

This is how I feel. I know people personally who voted for him because of his own beliefs about abortions and gay marriages. When Bush campaigned his biggest argument was about gay marriages and abortions. He knew people who were religious would look at that and think about voting for him because they did not believe in gay marriages or abortions. People who were Democrat voted for him against their better judgment just because they believed what he was trying to sell. One thing people did not look at is Bush’s daughter is gay, He does not want to talk about that or have people judge her. It is not fare that Bush wanted people to judge other gays. Now I am a firm believer in GOD, so I try my best to not judge the choices that people make in life. Bush would not like people judging his daughter so why does he want people to judge other people who are gays. Then Bush says that he does not believe in abortions and people went all for that because they do not believe in abortions or they had one that they regret, whatever the case how can me getting abortion affect the USA it cannot. Now when woman have many kids and they end up on government assistance, then people want to say that government cannot afford to raise their children. Why should the government raise those children? They should not take care of my children or I should say not the government, but tax payers. Why do they want to get in the way of a woman who wants to get rid of her unborn child and then complain if they have to take care of it? I just do not understand people. If they mind their own business and let them worry about their own punishment from their GOD. Now I am not saying this is not wrong, but it is not my concern what people do with their life. Citizens of the USA voted Bush in again after he destroyed this country but they want to complain about Obama, that he is not doing a good enough job. President Obama said he

In spite of, President Obama publicly disagreeing with the ruling, but Bush would most likely condone this type of homophobia. The main reasoning behind this assumption is from how heavily religion influences his life and, thus, his presidency. It is said in the Bible that those who commit any form of sin or to ask God for forgiveness to avoid going to hell, which can be accomplished through Confession to a priest. Homosexual acts of any sort are said to be sin as it is said that a man belongs with a woman, so the woman may help populate the church. Bush would go to any measure to keep this sanction between government and religion intact. By this logic, he may also be in objection of marriage equality and feminism, as those current issues…

In the political world today there are so many different opinions about several different topics. The topics that I will address to you will be, should the 22nd Amendment be repealed and also should the foreign born be allowed to run for president. In both topics you may have your pros and cons, but I am strongly against the both of them because I feel that the Constitution should not be taken advantage of. Government should not be allowed to manipulate the Constitution to suit his or her needs. While making adjustments to the Constitution to allow different things to take place for convenience doesn 't leave any form respect of the Constitution. There should be a line drawn to keep this from happening for years to come on these issues and others as well. Some will like for the 22nd amendment to repealed to keep who they like in office, but my feeling towards this is give other the opportunity to make our world a better place. There are more than enough qualified people to make a difference for our country no need to stick to one person who eventually will get tired of it anyway. In addition, with the foreign born, this issue came to play all over Schwarzenegger getting backed up by Congress and other governors in California to try to make necessary changes to the Constitution (CNN News, 2004).…

It is more important that an elected official is properly chosen than that more people cast a vote. The informed population should be the ones casting the vote, because if the time has not been taken to learn about the candidates what is the point in voting? Voting along party lines or for racial or gender reasons is absurd and reinforces the problem George Washington alluded to after serving for two terms as president. George Washington warned about the threat political parties posed to democracy. Today, the competition is much needed for government but the problem lies in voting along party lines because this is purely an uneducated vote. It is not analyzing candidate by candidate what they could bring to Congress or as a President; rather it is assuming all candidates within a party are cookie cutter. It is nothing short of naïve to think all candidates of a party are the same. Each politician has had different positions on different issues ranging from staunch to moderate and some have even altered their opinion throughout their career. Without the proper knowledge, a vote cast is a vote wasted.…

The election system for a president and a vice president in the United States of America depends on only 538 persons who are members of the Electoral College system. Technically, the Electoral College members , called Electors, have the right to choose the president and the vice president with their decisions. In spite of making their own decisions, the Electoral College members who are voted by people in their states use the results of popular votes in their states to make conclusions in choosing for the president and the vice president. Moreover, It is important to make sure that people who are going to choose the USA’s leaders have enough knowledge of the candidates’ dispositions and backgrounds that they can make good decisions. In contrast, the result of an election sometimes does not reflect the vote of the vast majority of the people in the nation. From my point of view, the Electoral College should be abolished and the result form the citizens popular vote should be used to elect a president and a vice president of the people.…

After an extensive review of ten articles, I have developed the following information: The President of the United States is not chosen due to popular vote, but rather due to the fact that the framers of the constitution created the Electoral College. Americans have questioned the system since its creation. (Uselton, 2008) The Electoral College was born due out of the the debate whether congress had the power to elect a president, or did the public’s national vote. One wonders if because we have such a democracy in place, does the American vote really count? Recently during the 2012 Presidential election, this researcher asked her husband if he had voted yet. He replied “yea, but who cares, it didn’t count anyway”. (W. K. Ellis, & M. J. Ellis, personal communication, November 13, 2012). It boggles the mind to think how many Americans think that and don’t even bother to get out and vote. I think as Americans we have lost our way in the political system. It is complex and difficult to understand. No longer do people gather at the barbershop to talk about politics and process. They spend their time watching sports on the big screen while waiting for their haircut. Poplar vote wins you nothing in the political arena; the big game takes place at the Electoral College. Let us start with the origins of our political system. The Electoral College was developed to assist in the debate of who…

In the learning module, "How a Member Decides to Vote" my experience as I participated in the activity was very enlightening. I heard for all kinds of people with different backgrounds, ages, genders, and viewpoints. The different viewpoints presented regarding the issue of the "flag amendment” were strongly for the bill and strongly against the bill. Not one person present were neutral in what they believed should happen in regards to the “flag amendment”.…

What each candidate believes and stands for should be a big deciding factor for one to use in deciding which candidate to vote for. One may not agree with everything that a presidential candidate says, but one should agree as closely as possible to the candidate that he or she chooses. Donald Trump’s stand against abortion and his desire to do something about illegal immigration are some things that caused me to choose…

Each voter wants to see their beliefs mimicked in the candidate that would potentially have the power to make them laws. If their ideals match, and the voter feels that a certain candidate has a similar perspective, they overlook their other qualities that are not as electable. Take for example Donald Trump’s electability, people would think he would immediately be pushed out of the race by more formal candidates, but instead he is the favorite to win the republican nomination. But why? It could be an issue with our brains and reasoning skills. Dan Kahan, in his study for the Cultural Cognition Project, found that people’s political beliefs can disrupt their ability to properly process data contrary to their ideas. He says, “ICT sees the public’s otherwise intact capacity to comprehend decision-relevant science as disabled by cultural and political conflict.”(Kahan 2-3). In what he calls the Identity-protective Cognition Theory (ITC) someone's ideals and political beliefs are shaped, not by factual data, but cultural and social identity. The easiest example of this concept is someone who identifies as a republican having to vote for a republican despite…

The essay shows me that voting in the United States is something that many people take for granted. Many of those individuals today are young adults that don’t find the need to vote. Most of them either bandwagon a majority of the time or don’t vote at all. I believe that everybody should be an informed voter. People should vote for a candidate that they both have the same views on topics and is also going to create jobs and continue to improve the…

If voters were actually sure who the best candidate is for this country, this country would be the perfect country. For example, if somebody really knows about the two options they can choose from, they're going to pick whoever is the best. Sometimes people just vote for the candidate that they have heard the most about. This nation needs people that reads, shares truthful information and helps each other. A good American citizen always gets out there a republican or a democrat and they vote. Not just vote but know what they are voting for not just because they look a certain way they vote on who they truely believe carries the right position for the job. In my family when election time comes around my mom always talks about how important it is to not choose and go firmly on one side, democrat or republican but to do your research and find information and choose who ever fits your beliefs and what would make the United States a better country. At my work some of the people i work with was talking about elections and I heard, "im not voting for Mitt Romney because hes a Mormon" or "Im not voting for President…
