Volunteering Persuasive Essay
Yesterday morning, L.C.V.I students took the initiative to volunteer by picking up litter to improve schoolyards.

Last year, a study that was conducted by The University of British Columbia has shown that volunteering can help reduce stress levels by 25%, lowers depression severity and keeps you mentally focused.

The Volunteers started a campaign making sure their schoolyards are being taken care of and being cleaned for 1 month. Alex Salem, mayor of Kingston, stated:” we are so glad that many young leaders are putting in the time and effort to make a difference locally.” Recently Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute Secondary School was awarded Kingston Leadership Unions Award for the year.

Volunteers find a sense of self worth, empathy, gratitude, and responsibility. Personally, helping the community and providing a service to the community allows for a boost in confidence. Our world is often corrupt and unjust, but by twisting balloons and face painting, I learned that regardless of age, the youth of today can make major impacts on society, one smile at a time, even if it is just for a slight…

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send the homeless tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Reference? America has long been the land of freedom and hope to the world, and the American military is what has kept her that way. People have forgotten how important and valuable the military is to the world that we live in. As part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, automatic sequestration calls for $1.2 trillion in lowered federal spending, with 50% coming from defense and 50% coming from non-defense budgets. If Congress cannot reach an agreement, these cuts will reduce the Department of Defense spending by about $55 billion dollars. On September 11, 2001, the United States faced a difficult time in which 3,000 lives were lost due to an attack upon the U.S. by terrorists who hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the United States Pennsylvania! That day, 9/11, has become a day in which we remember the lives that were lost and the families who were affected by such a tragedy. We called on our military once again, and they were there to protect our country. I am against automatic sequestration towards the military and military programs for many reasons.…

Throughout my high school career, I have been given numerous opportunities to lead other students by example, work ethic, volunteerism, and school involvement. I believe that my greatest impact as a leader in high school has been through my participation in a Service Learning Class. This class gave me the chance to help and lead others by tutoring younger students in the middle school and elementary school. As a senior, I felt responsible for providing a voice for the class in ideas and decisions to help better our school. I worked with administrators, teachers, and class members to promote healthy habits of responsibility, school pride, respect, and service.…

Yes, volunteering teaches you social skills and it looks good on a resume, but none of that stuff matters if you don’t have a good character. Your character is something that you can’t get rid of, but you can change. Volunteering can change you into a more patient, loving, and smart individual. In the past I’ve volunteered for the Carl Perkins Center, which deals with children who have been abused. Working with these children showed me how blessed I am. It made me more thankful, for my parents and family members. I made it my job to make those children happier than they were when I walked in. By the time I left I was the one who was more affected. Those children didn’t care about worldly things; all they wanted was your attention. This showed me that the gift of time is sometimes the best gift a person can…

Secondly, Volunteering combats depression. Reducing the risk of depression is another important benefit of volunteering. A key risk factor for depression is social isolation. Volunteering keeps you in regular contact with others and helps you develop a solid support system, which in turn protects you against stress and depression when you’re going through challenging times. First, this will make the students not want to invest in the community in the future. The term volunteer is to describe how the person takes time and does something that is for the greater good. I see that when a school takes it in their hand and makes the children of their school to contribute to society it can be good but most of the time it can make the child reject helping on their own time because it is required by the school. You can see in life that the position of choice or encouragement of choice is helpful in society but when we make someone do something that they have no say in or any power to choose then the get angered by doing and this sort of causes people after high school and Jr high school to dissolve to not doing a good thing after school.…
