Visual Symbolism In The Star Thrower
My visual loosely represents the storyline of The Star Thrower. I chose to begin my art with a representation of the picture the Eiseley finds in part three of this piece. It is encompassed by flames to represent his mother’s death. This picture is connected to the starfish with the eye in the center of it. The starfish is the central symbol of The Star Thrower. It represents hope and the answers to life's biggest questions. The eye is in the center of this symbol to show how the narrator is constantly questioning his purpose and why he was so much darkness in his life. Then, the sun, sunset, and water. This scene represents the end of the narrative, when the author is accepting his fate as a human, These are not symbols of hope, but

First off, I will explain why I have chosen the pictures on my collage. One of the most important pictures is of the maze, or the labyrinth, which represents the line, “How will we ever get out of this labyrinth of suffering?” that Alaska Young often uses. As the labyrinth is a symbol for life, we see her escape the labyrinth when she dies in a car accident. Another very meaningful symbol is the question mark on my collage that represents “the Great Perhaps”, or a defining moment in life,…

Good morning/afternoon class and maim, I am here today to demonstrate my understanding of the concept of distinctively visual, through an analysis of the relationship between Henry Lawson’s short story ‘The Drover’s Wife’ , with a strong, courageous and determined woman that deals with the severe, unmerciful Australian outback. The painting ‘Battling Bushfires by the Alan J. Benge in 2007 illustrates a woman, face to face fighting against a bushfire encroaching on her land. Another Henry Lawson short story “The Loaded Dog” is about a dog that innocently takes a stick of dynamite, sparking it as he runs past the camp fire, then tries to play with it and in fear, everyone that runs away, and thirdly, James Reeves “The Sea”, a poem that creates an extended metaphor of a dog, which illustrates the change of behaviour of both a dog and the sea.…

Using imagery is a smart way to engage an audience and keep someone on their seat to keep reading. Tim O'Brien uses imagery to connect and entertain his audience in an effective way. “..not love letters, but Lieutenant Cross was hoping, so he kept them folded in plastic... after a day's march, he would dig his foxhole, wash his hands under a canteen, unwrap the letters, hold them with the tips of his fingers, and spend the last hour of light pretending.. He wanted Martha to love him as he loved her” (1). This quote gives the reader evidence that imagery can create a new picture and really help you understand a story in a deeper level. This is more suitable than using facts because using facts can not create a vivid, lasting picture in the reader’s mind.…

Donald Justice does a very good job of using imagery to portray events in his poems. In “First Death” he describes the death and wake of his grandmother. One quote that really affected me was “Powder mixed with a drying paste” as I remember the makeup that my late great-grandmother wore. In “Absences” he describes the emptiness of a snow-stricken day. This poem is rather gloomy in tone, as it…

A second image that portrays this theme is the fourth stanza of the poem. “Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, and learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, do not go gentle into that good night.” Here the image of the sun represents the passing of life. And the men, who were too late in catching the sun and grieved it on its way, are giving us the image that the sun is setting. Or, as it could be interpreted, the sun for that day is dying.…

Poetry can be a healing process, putting down on paper all the profound expanses locked up inside ones head, a way of remembering and a way of re-living. It has many forms from free verse, to sonnet, but all poems tell a story, a story of words, words wrapped around each other in such a way that they flow together, locked in meaning, creating a mystical world full of images, images that provoke emotion and connections that cannot be created in any other way; it is “anything and everything that affect’s ones emotions” (Nadain, 2002. P.31). In this anthology, I have carefully selected poems that give examples of how poets use images…
