Video Analysis: Waging A Living
Waging a living Waging a living is based on four people’s lives on achieving the American Dream and leaving the poor to become a better person financially and overall. The four people in the video are Jean R, Jerry L, Mary V, and Barbara B. All four have interesting stories and many hardships to overcome. The two most interesting moments that struck me in the video were about Jerry. Jerry was homeless at one point and lives paycheck to paycheck. I could not imagine my life depending on my next paycheck or the next time I was going to get paid from my job. Jerry’s story hit me because he was rock bottom, and by working as a security guard at the hotel he was able to get off the streets and live in a small apartment. He always had a positive attitude and never missed a day of work. Although Jerry had to live pay check to pay check, he …show more content…
The two symbols that stood out the most were living spaces and sickness. The living spaces of the families in the video were all extremely crammed and small. Since every family had multiple kids, it made these living conditions seem even worse. Barbara and Jean stood out because they were taking care of various kids and also other family members. The small living conditions symbolized how much they struggled but always did the best they could to support their family. Sickness is another symbol throughout the movie that kept coming up. Barbara and her son were sick in the movie as well as Jean and her daughter, Bridgette, who had cancer. Sickness can be considered as a symbol because being sick did not stop Bridgette or anyone in the movie in living and being strong. Bridgette has cancer and was not supposed to live past the year, but she was strong, and with the help of her mother she lived many more years than the doctors said she would. Therefore, it showed how life can be challenging, but with support and a family who cares, people can move forward from a bad sickness and tough

The final symbol that really stood out to me in this piece was the subject of Slavery in this piece. The way that she talked about the slavery, and the the way that she described the attic space. It really showed her sense of freedom, and passion, and all of the terrible things that she went through. The way that she wrote it was very moving, and emotional.…

After a short and brief anchor introduction WGN’s, Erik Runge, tells his story on the upcoming bad allergy season through a donut live shot. In his introduction live shot, Runge stumbles a bit, but then quickly recovers from it by restating the word and pretending like it never happened. Runge’s b-roll video that was shot in the same perimeter just through different angles around the same lake area in Lincoln Park was lacking and did not compliment the story well at all. Some close up b-roll on growing plants was more effective than the other videos because it represented pollen, a main cause of allergies. Runge also only followed around one allergy victim who did not have many powerful things to say beyond the obvious negative comments on…

When building many of the castles in the 1300-1400’s the main purpose was to keep the enemies out and of course for conquest. In the video I watched, the Forbidden Knowledge video, they called out some very key point of why and how these fortresses and castles where erected and defended. Not only where there kings of the lands, but then each of those lands were divided up to noble kin and lords. They were always trying to better there futures with more land, even if that included killing your own cousin to get his piece of land. One great example of an intuitive fortress, Caesar had made a donut shaped fortress at one point around a small town; he shut out and was starving the people in the town and then also keeping out the men that were…

The Sarah Bartmaan video today had some very shocking mistreatment of African Americans. I don’t understand how Europeans could justify their actions of treating another human being like that. Also to know that people still went to see her pickled remains for almost a century after her death showed that it was more than one person that contributed to this. People thought that African Americans were a different species and weren’t even human. We can also see this in our society today. I grew up outside the Bronx, and my school was mainly comprised of African American and Hispanic people. My cousins that lived just outside the city in the suburbs, went schools were the population was 90% white. It is almost like our races still keep us separate…

In the story “Harrison Bergeron” uses a lot of symbolism. For example in one part the story when George’s and Hazel’s son took off all of his handicaps it represented freedom.Another example is when George thought of his son the 21 gun salute went off in his head and he forgot what he was thinking about. This is my favorite one out of all of them.…

Symbols are used within The Shack to really enunciate the relationship transition that Mack experiences while visiting the shack and the new found relationship that he develops within the Trinity. Symbolism within The Shack is found almost everywhere, with symbolism it is possible to understand God through the analogies expressed. These analogies range from simple to complex and have many dimensions; the symbol itself and the reality it exposes.…

Symbols mean much more than what meets the eye, there can be more underneath the symbols. In the fictional novel Tangerine, written by Edward Bloor, the residents of Lake Windsor do not know the fakeness which is behind them. The sinkhole that swallowed the middle school represents the fakeness behind the Lake Windsor residents. The hole in the Fisher family is represented through the eternal muck fire burning forever. The Golden Dawn Tangerine represents Paul's new life and how he will start over again. Through symbolism the reader gets a better understanding of how fraudulent the Lake Windsor Downs residents are, and can realize that they are incapable of recognizing their own faults behind the mask of which they wear.…

The video depicts a group of prisoners chained and bound, forcing them to see the hazy, shadows on the cave wall. Shapes backlit by the sole source of light: a small fire, create the shadows. Since, these are the only images the prisoners see, they believe this to be the only reality. Plato asks us to imagine one of the prisoners set free and dragged out of the cave, into the light. At first, the sun blinds him but, slowly his eyes adjust. He realizes that what he sees now is realer than what he saw in the cave. Then, he continues to gaze up at the sun, finally understanding that the source of all light is the sun.…

The video that I watched was called Beyond Perfection: Female Body Dimorphic Disorder. The video featured a woman named Jennifer who strives to be perfect in her looks. It takes her about 3 hours to get ready in the morning because she never fully loves how she looks with or without make-up. So far, Jennifer has had a nose job and a procedure to slightly sand down the top layer of her skin. Though she has had these procedures, she feels like she looks disfigured. Jennifer claims that if she were beautiful, or even pretty, that her life would be perfect and she would finally be happy.…
