Uses And Effects Of Educational Television Programs In Human Society
The revolution of science has brought a new technology known as television where television program is a common word. In human society, what are the uses of television or the roles of television program is a matter to discuss, but in this term there are two key words like entertainment and education. So the aim of this discussion is to demonstrate the uses and effects of TV programs in society and this discussion is sectioned with some structures as follows. The first section presents an analysis of entertaining activities and impacts of TV programs. The second section focuses on the educational value of TV programs. Third section presents some examples of educational TV programs and personal analysis is in the fourth section.

Qualitative educational TV programs can contribute the aid of education in many ways. So we can take it also as a medium of education. Beside the academic knowledge we can also acquire many educational items on various subjects via television program. Educational television programs can distribute instant and fresh knowledge that may not be available in any academic book and in this modern century person can keep them up to date with the cooperation of educational television programs. (English.cri.cn, 2009)
Researchers have revealed that educational programs can enhance viewer’s knowledge or rational progress. In a research Dr. Aletha C. Huston professor of Human Development at the University of Texas have researched that the children who watch educational programs for a few hours in a week can learn many things than those who preferred television only for entertainment. (Medialit.org, 2011)
Daniel Anderson (Ph.D.) a professor of psychology of the University of Massachusetts researched that as a most available component television programs can contribute a positive effect on children if it is comprehended by them properly. But it depends on the category of the program and what viewers prefer to see on television which varies from viewer to viewer. When a viewer wants to be entertained he or she must select those programs where the show or program is entertaining. But a viewer who wants to learn via television program will select those programs that are educational. Now a thing which should be acknowledged that awareness among the viewers is a major subject. Among the maximum viewers awareness is a problem. The TV program designers have to be more aware about the quality of the program, they should keep in mind that program should be entertaining and proper

    In “Watching TV makes you smarter,” Steven Johnson makes clear his thesis statement to us that television programming today makes increasingly complex cognitive demands of viewers, and enhances people’s cognitive facilities. He uses the images telling us what the intellectual effect of television viewing. First, based on his theory called “The Sleeper Curve”, he talks about reality TV affecting younger generation by helping with personal development.
