 India’s Neighbours  In the Northwest: Pakistan and Afghanistan  In the North: China, Nepal and Bhutan  In the East: Myanmar and Bangladesh  Down South: Sri Lanka and Maldives

Throughout the paper called People like Us by David Brooks he addresses the fact the United Sates does not have diversity. Brook states the fact that most Americans tend to live, be friends and fall in love with people who are similar to each other in many way including education, income and interests. However, Americans tend to promote diversity even though most Americans do not leave their comfort zone to make new relationships with people with different views. Brooke states “People want to be around others who are roughly like themselves”(Brooke, line 3). Americans tend to like being with people similar to themselves even while promoting…

Britain has changed quite significantly over the past few decades in terms of cultural diversity. Whereas Britain was largely white not so long ago, the number of ethnic minorities has been steadily increasing and this growth does not look likely to stop anytime soon. Demographic experts have, infact, predicted that by 2050, 1 in every 5 British person will belong to an ethnic minority. The question issue I will be discussing in the following essay is: what effect does this influx of immigrants and their cultures have on the social integrity of Britain and its people?…

One blind spot I think I had at the start of the semester was the idea about disability. When you mention disability, I can honestly say that I always thought of the physical forms of disability. So when it came to helping accommodate for disabilities I would naturally think of things like wheelchair ramps or special seating in the offices. I never considered the fact that “invisible” disabilities were present in the workplace. Now when you say disability I think of not only the physical but also the mental and learning disabilities that can affect people within the workplace.…

I believe diversity has a wide variety of definitions. It means accepting others despite their moral values. As a young African-American woman attending a school where people come from all different walks of life, I am challenged with different types of people and accepting their moral values. One of my best friends is an African-American male, Christian, and homosexual. Typically Christians and black people don’t accept those who attribute to same-sex relationships, but I love and see past his beliefs and accept him for who he is. He has stayed by my side and helped me through all of my issues. He has held me when I cried and we cried laughing so hard together. We do everything together and I would not be the same person if I hadn’t met him 5 years ago at an 8th grade.…

Diversity to me is the balance of different cultures, races, sexes, religion, appearance, sexual orientation, disabilities, and many more things. It’s the ability to look at someone else and to realize they are different but not treat as they are. The way you look at others and judge them could be the same way others look at you and judge you and make decisions based on what they do and do not like about you. You would not want someone to do this to you or to treat you unfair so why would you do it to someone else. Diversity is a way of saying yes I know your different from me, but I accept it!…

Today, we live in a society where current events and the social issues of race, class and gender engulf our lives. These issues and events can be some of the most important experiences we, as humans, will ever have the privilege to live through. Although several of our experiences can be caused by some of the most tragic events in our lives, others make us appreciate how lucky we are to have the lives we have. Either way, each of our experiences have had a part in shaping who we are today. There are numerous examples in writing, movie and TV entertainment of the common issues our society and world faces each and every day. Readings, such as Diversity and Society: Race, Ethnicity and Gender by Joseph F. Healey, provide readers insight to many…

The term diversity means the differences in racial or ethnic classifications, age, gender, religion, philosophy, physical abilities, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, intelligence, mental health, physical health, genetic attributes, behavior, attractiveness, or other identifying features. Nowadays people seeing the issues of diversity not as a thread, but a reason to respect each other. Identity is a complex and diverse issue. As much as society, the media and academics try to debate its definition it is difficult to capture fully its meaning. According to Kroger (2000) identity is “a subjective feeling of self-sameness and continuity over time”. If research to date has shown anything it is that there are a number of ways to examine identity in psychology. Of the three Identity theorists available to us it is the Social Constructionist theory that has transformed the way we view and research identity today. It has provided us with an epistemological viewpoint that brings with it new methods of conducting identity research. This essay illustrates some of the strengths and weaknesses of this approach.…
