A possible influence on dietary intake could be diabetes; its full name is diabetes mellitus. It is a condition where insulin is not being produced by the pancreas or it is not being produced in sufficient amounts or even the body cannot use insulin properly. There are two types of diabetes IDDM which is commonly known as type 1 this is the most severe type of diabetes and is treated with insulin injections. MIDDM is known as type 2 diabetes and is less serious it can be treated with diet or tablets. Type 1 diabetes can lead to death if untreated because of a lack of glucose in the cells and vital organs. People with diabetes normally see a dietician; they will help people with diabetes have a healthy diet because a poor diet can lead to blindness, kidney failure, strokes or gangrene. There is no diabetic diet that will work for everyone so dieticians have to be careful with the diet they choose for and individual. Type 1

Type 1 diabetes develops when insulin producing cells have been destroyed, this is usually a condition that develops in the early stages of life. The main issue is to consider how much the foods will affect blood glucose levels and how to balance carbohydrates with the correct amount of insulin. Eating healthily prevents the development of complications, if they eat a balanced diet which contains a variety of vegetables this helps to provide a person with diabetes a body that receives enough nutrients to stay healthy. They recommend foods containing unsaturated fats like nuts, avocadoes and oily fish. Homemade foods are most recommended when possible. Type 2

This type of diabetes develops when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin. The diet of this type of diabetes needs to be foods that are focused on healthy eating but do no effect blood glucose levels.
