QATAR 2022: WHAT ARE THE KEY TECHNICAL CHALLENGES, AND HOW CAN THEY BE OVERCOME IN THE DESIGN OF A TEMPORARY STRUCTURE FOR AN INDOOR FOOTBALL TRAINING FACILITY?

Mr. Vinayak Dave (Assistant Professor, Saveetha School of Engineering)

ABSTRACT This study was to evaluate the proposed solutions over the technical challenges of Qatar World Cup 2022, which can be then used in order to set the design brief of a full pitch size indoor football training facility that incorporates changing facilities and capacity of 5000 spectators, but it will also have the ability of dismantling so as to remove it somewhere else in the world. Through literature survey, recommendations were provided to overcome issues of the extreme climatic conditions that will prevail

Bolted connections can also be more economic by 30 to 50 % of the total fabrication cost since it is simpler and faster process to install them on site but also it does not require any high skilled workmanship.

5 DESIGN OF FOOTBALL INDOOR
TRAINING FACILITY
The indoor football training facility is required to feature a full size football pitch in accordance with the FIFA World Cup rules. Therefore, the design must comply with Law 1 – “The field of play” of the Laws of the Game, which gives guidance on the dimensions and line markings of the field.

For the project under consideration, width of 68 metres and length of 100 metres were employed. The indoor football training facility is required to accommodate up to 5000 spectators. Therefore, seats from manufacturer Alibaba were chosen in order to estimate how many seats can be accommodated per row.

This results to ease and faster construction and deconstruction process. Moreover, in terms of constructability, the structure can be erected with no difficulties. As soon as, the grandstands have erected, arches would have attached to the columns of the grandstands and they would be temporarily supported at various points over the whole span. Finally, this solution satisfied the criteria set, however, it was decided at a later stage to make some amendments in order to improve it in some other aspects.

5.1.3 Final Conceptual Design
This concept involved two grandstands of capacity of 2500 spectators each; one opposite to the other, where the arches would be connected at the columns at the top of the grandstands. This can increase its value for money and its potential for getting sale since it would be able to accommodate two small teams in a championship game, considering that football in Middle East is not so widespread. It can also provide more space for facilities underneath of the grandstands. Tie cables were used at the supports of the arches in order to eliminate the horizontal force, which can induce moments.

While it swarms the air the first thing that is noticed by most is the smell, one step in and the war, smell of deep fried food surrounds you. It would be overwhelming, but the vast stadium spreads out the aroma as much as possible. People immediately go on a quest to search for the scoreboard, but nobody looks for very long, because stretched from one twenty-yard line to the other lies the oversized HD scoreboard that is unrivaled by any other. Next to the mammoth scoreboard an Imax would look like a tablet, on each side of the main screen there is a smaller screen that is still monumental. Concrete walkways leading to the seats are lined with a tunnel of stores all displaying a lone navy blue star with a white outline. All of the walls are either navy blue or gray, the only other colors in the place come from the glare of the scoreboard’s lights. Every seat is a drop of water in a sea of blue, with the only blemish being the occasional fan for the opponent. At the base of all the grand stands lie a field that is precisely laid green AstroTurf with the only exception being the navy end zones at each end, it isn’t game ready yet. Theatrics for the national anthem and team entrances are set up randomly around the…

When we add 32 teams to the tournament, many of our expenses such as concessions and t-shirts double in size, as they are variable in nature, which means they depend on the number of participants. When adding 32 teams, we need to double our field space. Right now we are using 8 out of 10 available fields, so with double the teams we will need to use 16 fields. Since there are 10 available, we need to rent 6 extra fields, at $150 per field. This makes our additional field expense $900. We also need two goals per additional field at $60 per goal, making our additional goal expense $720. There are also expenses that do not change when there are 32 additional teams in the tournament. The registration with the state is a fixed fee, and is not dependant on the number of participants. The tournament has an adequate number of soccer balls, so does not need to purchase any more…

Generally, stadium seating found in modern megaplex theatres is preferred by patrons over slopefloored multiplex theatres, which were the predominant theatre-type built prior to 1996. Although, as of December 31, 2009, approximately 80% of Regal’s screens were located in theatres featuring stadium seating, we still serve many markets with sloped-floored multiplex theatres. These theatres may be more vulnerable to competition than their modern megaplex theatres.…

I chose to write about a couple of stadiums that are/were used by one team. At the conclusion of the 2008 Major League Baseball season, the old Yankee stadium in New York completed its 88th and final year of hosting the Yankees. The new Yankees Stadium in New York just wrapped up their second regular season of hosting the Yankees, after they moved from their old ballpark across the street. In this paper I hope to compare some differences and similarities between the two stadiums. Specifically the cost of the stadiums, the amenities each one provides, and the differences a spectator may experience from visiting the new stadium compared to the old one.…

Who doesn’t get excited watching Super Bowl or FIFA World Cup? The anticipation of “who’s going to win?” is always the golden question. The commercials and entertainment running during the Super Bowl makes it a yearly social event even for non football fans. In the same way soccer fans wait anxiously every four years to watch FIFA World Cup. The popularity of these two sports, soccer and American Football, is all over the world. The growing excitement fans feel is mutual but these two sports are far from being similar. They are individually different in sport histories, equipments, and in competing for different championship.…

The past 20 years have witnessed a massive transformation of professional sports stadiums in North America and the rest of the world. In the United States and Canada alone, by 2012, 125 of the 140 teams in the five largest professional sports leagues, the National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), and National Hockey League (NHL), will play in stadiums constructed or significantly renovated since 1990. This new construction has come at a significant cost, the majority of which has been covered by taxpayers. Construction costs alone for major league professional sports facilities have totaled in excess of $30 billion over the past two decades with over half of the cost being paid by the public.…
