Could you imagine what it would be like to see a high schooler in a liquor store buying alcohol for a party? Many accidents, injuries, health effects, and deaths are caused by alcohol usage. Underage drinking is one of the most serious public health issues in the United States. Alcohol is one of the most abused substances among America’s youth. Consequences of underage drinking can affect anyone no matter your age or your drinking status.
Legally you can drink under the age of twenty one in the state of Ohio if you are under your parent’s supervision. Your parent has to give consent and be physically present while you are consuming alcohol. You can be arrested for: drinking, buying or possessing any alcoholic and alcoholic beverage even if …show more content…
One thousand eight hundred and twenty five college students were injured in two thousand sixteen alone due to alcohol. Alcohol is the leading cause of most injuries. Many alcohol related injuries are very serious and require hospital visits. Underage drinking increases the number of eighteen to twenty year old deaths in car crashes. One hundred thousand people die each year due to alcohol related accidents. Two point five million people were treated for alcohol use last year alone. Another reason that the legal drinking age should not be lowered is because of alcohol related deaths. There were one thousand six hundred homicides and three hundred suicides last year due to alcohol being used. Five thousand people under twenty one die annually from underage drinking. Many alcohol related accidents happen each day due to careless individuals making poor choices. Think, even though you are driving sober, someone else might not be. Horrible things happen from the use of alcohol with the legal drinking age at twenty one so just imagine what would happen if the legal drinking age was lowered any. Alcohol use causes many injuries, deaths, and major health issues as well. In conclusion, young people make poor decisions on their own and certainly do not need alcohol to make even worse decisions. This just goes to show that picturing a high school student in a liquor store purchasing alcohol for a party is completely
