I used to watch Sportscenter and other sports shows such as First Take when I was younger and know that I could do what they did. As a kid I used to sit in front of the mirror and grab one of my mother’s hair brushes and practice by doing my own sports talk show that delivered and discussed sports news. Southern Methodist University’s mission statement resonates with the same values I admire about a University such as “promoting an environment emphasizing individual dignity and worth”. Growing up I lacked essential self-worth. Upon beginning highs school I was very confused and frustrated person. I was learning to accept myself for being gay and the conservative and traditional environment I was in made it difficult for me to express who I was. The misrepresentation and disrespect I gained from being a double minority in high school fueled a passion in me which became the catalyst for positive change in my academic career. Since I began to attend Tarrant County College, I have joined the Cornerstone honors program offered at the campus and…

My mother has worked serving the children and families in our State and ensured I received the best education possible. I have always volunteered to help with the Foster Children and those less fortunate during the holidays and to help support the Community.…

Growing up as a missionary kid, my faith has been a primary source of discernment, and spiritual development. A large part of my identity comes my Baptist tradition, and I continue to be a part of this denominational affiliation as an adult. It was inside the walls of a Baptist church where I was first exposed to the liberating yet dangerous responsibility of the “priesthood of all believers” and “soul freedom,” and where I chose to follow Christ and experience salvation on a personal level.…

The University of Notre Dame is a private Catholic University located in South Bend, Indiana. The school attracts dedicated students and puts great emphasis on values. The school is a Catholic university, so it is no surprise that their motto is “God, Country, Notre Dame”. The university wants its community to revolve around religion, loving America, and taking pride in Notre Dame. Debates over the exclusivity of “God, Country, Notre Dame” have led some to question whether or not the motto is outdated and discouraging for prospective students. The motto “God, Country, Notre Dame” is appropriate for the modern Notre Dame student because the school is founded upon the very values listed in the motto and the longevity of it only adds to the community…
