Truman Doctrine Essay

Large portions of 20th century during the Cold War that started after WWII of the difference between communist and democratic views. Even though the United States and Soviet Union never actually fought in combat but we have kind of fought around each other. This still played a huge impact for the United States. During George Kennan’s 5,000 word telegram his main purpose was trying to stop communism reaching into other countries. So, basically what he was trying to say in this writing was that he was trying to contain the Soviet expansion to reach the United States with people coming in saying that capitalism wasn’t working so they were going to switch over to communism. While Kennan was writing this telegram he had the economic and political policies in mind which then triggered Truman to expand on this as well. The main purpose of the Truman Doctrine was to give the United States a role in stopping the spread of communism. Then, George Marshall suggested offering financial aid to help European capitalistic economies to be recovered. So
The United States then had an idea to join forces, with Britain and France to form a new government and then was going to use the Marshall Plan to help with their economy as a whole together. As assumed, this did not go as planned and the Cold War then begun with The United States and the Soviet Union. The one idea the United States had was to get them supplies to then be able to run down the freeway, also they planned that they could send over an airlift full of supplies to drop down, for the deciding factor Truman used the airlift option. This was then named the Berlin airlift which resupplied West Berlin for almost a year. Overall, the Berlin airlift was to bring over food and different supplies for Americans. Following, in 1989 was when the Berlin Wall was tore down, as well as the Soviet Union
