TRANSFORMER PROJECT
You can make a transformer from magnet wire and an iron rod. Remember that magnet wire, although it looks bare, actually has an enamel coating on the outside that serves as insulation. Enamel is used on magnet wire so that the insulation is very thin and the coil of wire can be compacted into a smaller space, thus enhancing the inductive phenomenon. small gauge wire and cause it to melt, which is a very good example of how a fuse works, but could cause you to get an electrical shock, or perhaps be burned!
A low voltage AC power source is required for this project. Use a variable power supply such as a Variac at 3 volts, or if one is not available, try two 12 volt transformers in series with one another.

Wrap the wire around the iron (or steel) bar. Make two separate coils, each with a different number of turns of the wire.
One of these will be the secondary and the other the primary. The inductive transfer will be greatest if the coils of wire are as close together as possible.

Warning! You will need to use a very low voltage AC power supply for this project.

Ohm’s Law, current is a function of resistance and current in the formula
I=E/R, so a lower value of E, and a higher value of R will result in less current flow.

(larger number of electrons flowing) so limiting the current flow is important to making the project safe.
A transformer with at least 50 turns of
#20 gauge magnet wire in the primary, and 30 turns in the secondary should work well.
First, try the transformer with a D cell battery. Use some jumper wires to connect the secondary leads to a VOM set to the lowest AC voltage

    A thermistor is a piece of semiconductor made from metal oxides, pressed into a small bead, disk, wafer, or other shape, sintered at high temperatures, and finally coated with epoxy or glass. The resulting device exhibits an electrical resistance that varies with temperature. There are two types of thermistors – negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors, whose resistance decreases with increasing temperature, and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors, whose resistance increases with increasing temperature. NTC thermistors are much more commonly used than PTC thermistors, especially for temperature measurement applications. A main advantage of thermistors for temperature measurement is their extremely high sensitivity. For example, a 2252 Ω thermistor has a sensitivity of -100 Ω/°C at room temperature. Higher resistance thermistors can exhibit temperature coefficients of -10 kΩ/°C or more. In comparison, a 100 Ω platinum RTD has a sensitivity of only 0.4 Ω/°C. The physically small size of the thermistor bead also yields a very fast response to temperature changes. Another advantage of the thermistor is its relatively high resistance. Thermistors are available with base resistances (at 25° C) ranging from hundreds to millions of ohms. This high resistance diminishes the effect of inherent resistances in the lead wires, which can cause significant errors with low resistance devices such as RTDs.     A rectifier is an electrical device that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) and the process is known as rectification. Rectifiers have many uses including as components of power supplies and as detectors of radio signals. Rectifiers may be made of solid state diodes, vacuum tube diodes, mercury arc valves, and other components. When only one diode is used to rectify AC (by blocking the negative or positive portion of the waveform), the difference between the term diode and the term rectifier is merely one of usage, i.e., the term rectifier describes a diode that is being used to convert AC to DC. Almost all rectifiers comprise a number of diodes in a specific arrangement for more efficiently converting AC to DC than is possible with only one diode. Rectifiers are broadly classified into three categories based on their type of rectification viz. half wave rectifier, full wave rectifier, and bridge rectifiers. In half wave rectification, either the positive or negative half of the AC wave is passed, while the other half is blocked. Because only one half of the input waveform reaches the output, it is very inefficient if used for power transfer. Half-wave rectification can be achieved with a single diode in a one-phase supply, or with three diodes in a three-phase supply. A full-wave rectifier converts the whole of the input waveform to one of constant polarity (positive or negative) at its output. Full-wave rectification converts both polarities of the input waveform to DC (direct current), and is more efficient. However, in a circuit with a non-centre tapped transformer, four diodes are required instead of the one needed for halfwave rectification. Four diodes arranged this way are called a diode bridge or bridge rectifier. An aspect of most rectification is a loss from the peak input voltage to the peak output voltage, caused by the built-in voltage drop across the diodes (around 0.7 V for ordinary silicon p-n-junction…
