Tom Is A Hero Essay
Was Tom Powers a villain or a hero? Well it depends on who you might ask. From the outside point of view, you might see Tom as someone who is not so nice morally. He is rude to others, he grew up a thief, and did not seem like he was very pleasant. But if you were to ask this question to his best friend, he would probably say he really is a nice guy, just different, and is trying to make a living during the prohibition era. Tom also cares about his family. He does not get along with his brother very much, but he does try to take care of his mom and be there for her. In my opinion, Tom is a guy who got lost in the world of crime, but his intentions were to make a decent living and take care of those around him. I would say he is a hero, but does things in the “wrong” way. It reminds me of the common issue of ethics regarding if it would be wrong to steal bread to feed your starving family. If I told you that I believe Tom is a good guy, some people might look at my like I am crazy. They might point out that he is a criminal and does terrible things to others. I would agree with them, but we need to remember when the movie is taking place, which is during the Prohibition Era. During the Prohibition Era, there was a decline in the amusement and entertainment industry. Along with a decline in those industries, the …show more content…

He would treat those who treated him well with compassion and respect, he never went behind peoples back’s to try and one up them. He had integrity. This is what separates him from vile people who commit crime. He showed compassion for others and wanted to help others, he was just tied up in not so great things and did not have the greatest

I am convinced that you know what the hero’s journey is, only don’t you know it by name. The Hero’s Journey or Monomyth is a formula or a structure presented by Joseph Campbell in his book called The Hero of a Thousand Faces (1949). In this book, Campbell describes twelve stages of a narrative, and comes up with a conclusion that in great and successful narratives, the characters are all the same. Therefore, these stages can be applied in (almost) every narrative, from cinema or literature.…
