To Kill A Mockingbird Title Meaning
After reading the book I understood the meaning of the title To Kill A Mockingbird, because mockingbirds are harmless and just sing but are killed. In a way it symbolizes that people are like mockingbirds they do good but don’t get credit, lose a battle or end up losing anyway. Jem, Scout, and Atticus represent Mockingbirds to me because they did their best to do good but it just didn’t work

Innocent Mockingbirds WantedA harmless mockingbird is flying in the air while singing a tune. As the bird hums its lovely music it is shot. Why was the bird shot? Like characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, the mockingbird was viewed as dangerous. The only way people knew how to deal with problems was by “shooting them down.” The innocence of killing a mockingbird is shown by three characters in the book: Tom Robinson, Atticus Finch, and Boo Radley. Their traits and actions shown throughout To Kill a Mockingbird help symbolize the mockingbird. Even though they all resemble mockingbirds in the novel, they all symbolize the bird in their own unique way. She uses the symbol of the mockbird to represent two of the main characters. Atticus says, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” The author uses this quote to introduce Tom Robinson. Tom represents the mockingbird because he was falsely accused of assault and put away in jail. Tom was a kind innocent person that only brought good to the world, and when he was prosecuted it was as if they killed a mockingbird. Miss Maudie then explains the phrase said by Atticus, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except for make music for us to enjoy, they don’t eat up people's gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. Thats why its a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Harper Lee also uses Boo radley as a symbol of the mockingbird because Boo has been secluded in his home for most of his life, the town folks made rumors that Boo was crazy, mental, and psycho. Boo is a mockingbird because when he killed Bob Ewell it was to protect the children and telling the town of what he did would only add ges to the fire. They just mind their own business and are harmless. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people's gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why its a sin to kill a mockingbird” (Lee, 1960, P.119). “Shoot all the bluejays you want… but remember, it's a sin to kill a mockingbird,” the mockingbird is being represented as a recurring motif to symbolize innocence and victims of injustice throughout the novel (Lee 90). It is a symbol of innocence and goodwill against racism and hatred. The symbol shows the important moral of treating others the way they would like to be treated. The mockingbird also serves as a way relating to humans and how only actions make up a person, not what they look like. People like the Mr. Ewell only see things that make others he does not like inferior so he feels better about himself. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy” (Lee 90). “The symbolism reveals the prejudice and narrow-mindedness of the common citizens of Maycomb County, the fears they have, and all of the immoral things they do”…

I think that the title of To Kill A Mockingbird is the right fit for this book. Atticus tells Jem and Scout that it is crime to kill a mockingbird; Miss Maudie explains later that this is because mockingbirds are songbirds which do nothing but give pleasure to people. The mockingbird's death is so symbolic of any loss of innocence. The symbolism of the mockingbird can be applied to many people in the novel. Jem and Scout are both mockingbirds because the innocence of their lives is demolished. There lives were demolished because in the beginning of the book both Jem and Scout see the world from this childhood perspective because neither have seen evil, so they believe that people are essentially good. In the middle of the book Scout and Jem…
