Reflections & Remembrance of Timeless Service
JANUARY 13-16, 2011 • L ITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS

S

upreme Basileus Carolyn House Stewart led a record
1,319 sorors to Little Rock from Januar y 13-16 for
the Alpha Kappa Alpha National Founders’ Day Celebration. Members came from all ten regions, some from as far away as the Virgin Islands and the Bahamas. Soror
Sharon Bridges, international program chairman, was
Founders’ Day chairman. Co-chairmen were Janet Davis
Tate and Colette D. Honorable of Little Rock. The theme
was “Reflections and Remembrance of Timeless Service.”
Among those in attendance were former Supreme Basilei
Mattelia B. Grays, Faye B. Bryant, Norma Solomon White
and Barbara A. McKinzie.
In honor of the Little Rock Nine, and our F ounders,
sorors engaged in 16 community service projects.
Friday, Januar y 1 4 was designated as “Pink and
Green In Action Day.” The day began with a visit to Heifer International Headquarters — one of the sorority’s charities of choice. Heifer’s mission to eradicate global poverty ,
provide economic security for women, and protect the environment, mirrors many of the sorority’s initiatives. The Supreme Basileus presented a check for $50,000 to Heifer
.
This adds to the thousands of dollars already donated by
chapters. Heifer’s immediate past interim president,
Charles Stewart, said the donation will enable Heifer to
expand its global mission....
